About The Position

As a Manufacturing Diagnostics Engineer on the Test & Diagnostics Engineering team, you will play a critical role in driving the troubleshooting and debug efforts to ensure we meet our aggressive scaling plans. In this role, you will provide leadership on the line and build a team of engineers to triage, respond to, and resolve vehicle/system issues across multiple manufacturing lines. Being able to advocate and implement new test coverage, diagnostic tooling, and infrastructure is essential for this role. The Manufacturing Diagnostics Engineer will begin with a 6-month assignment in Alabama before being based in the Bay Area full-time. In this role, you will: Perform troubleshooting and debug efforts on the main robotaxi assembly line and other manufacturing locations. You will triage issues spanning vehicle software, harnesses, networking and communication (CAN, LIN, automotive Ethernet), hardware, and infrastructure. Troubleshoot, contain, fix, and escalate (as needed) electrical and software issues pertaining to the various systems such as vehicle powertrain, suspension, thermal, lighting, telematics, compute units, sensors, cybersecurity, autonomy, etc. Design and develop new test sequences and test coverage for new vehicle programs and manufacturing lines, advocating for broad Zoox vehicle program changes as well as next-generation infrastructure, tools, and facility upgrades. Support troubleshooting issues on all assembly lines, proposing and implementing permanent corrective actions

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant area such as Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • 5+ years of work experience in Electronic Control Unit (ECU) software integration testing and test development
  • Extremely strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, coupled with an understanding/knowledge/experience with reading, troubleshooting, and injecting packets over various network protocols such as CAN, LIN, and Ethernet
  • Proficiency in interacting with Linux systems over the command line/terminal, including developing and troubleshooting shell (bash) scripts
  • Experience with programming in Python or a similar programming language
  • Experience with git, GitHub, and related tools for software management

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a relevant area such as Computer Science or Engineering
  • Knowledge of the Linux networking stack, including concepts such as VLANs, ethernet port mapping, etc.
  • Some exposure to security aspects (802.1x) and cybersecurity approaches to automotive communication is a definite plus.
  • Knowledge of automotive “end-of-line” tests, such as alignment, dyno testing, or other related tests
