About The Position

The Manufacturing Automation Engineer at Wood-Mizer is responsible for leading the design, implementation, optimization, and standardization of automation systems across Wood-Mizer’s manufacturing facility in Batesville, IN. This role supports existing robotic and automated systems while driving future automation strategy, capital planning, and plant-wide integration initiatives. This position blends hands-on technical execution with long-term automation planning and cross-facility standardization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field)
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing automation
  • Experience integrating robotics (Panasonic, Universal Robots, etc.)
  • PLC programming and controls integration experience (Allen-Bradley preferred)
  • Strong understanding of industrial safety systems

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading capital automation projects preferred

Responsibilities

  • Automation Strategy & Capital Planning
  • Develop and maintain a multi-year manufacturing automation roadmap
  • Identify high-ROI automation opportunities across plants
  • Support capital request development with cost/benefit analysis
  • Evaluate emerging automation technologies and vendor solutions
  • System Design & Integration
  • Lead integration of robotics, PLCs, vision systems, machine controls, and safety systems
  • Standardize automation architecture across facilities
  • Develop automation design standards and documentation
  • Robotic & Equipment Optimization
  • Improve cycle time, reliability, and OEE of automated systems
  • Support troubleshooting of robotic welding cells, machine tending systems, and automated equipment
  • Reduce downtime and improve system robustness
  • Cross-Plant Collaboration
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and CI teams
  • Support training and upskilling of maintenance personnel
  • Ensure safe and compliant automation implementation
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
