About The Position

Refractory Service, Inc. (RSI) is a specialized contractor that provides custom and complete refractory solutions. Customers include commercial boilers, power or ethanol plants, foundries, steel mills, heat treaters, refineries, and others who require heat-resistant materials for high temperature processes. The manufacturing associate operates machines and assembly equipment to produce specialty refractory insulation products. This role follows work orders and assembly instructions, ensures product quality through inspections, maintains documentation, and handles labeling, packaging, and shipping. The associate uses forklifts to move finished products, using efficient production and distribution processes. All work is performed efficiently, safely, and according to regulations and guidelines. This nonexempt role is very hands-on.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques that result in the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
  • 2 years in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience using machines and tools, including knowing their designs and uses; e.g., utility, swivel, and razor knives; nippers; files; broachers; drills; arbor; inserts; grinders; saws; air hoses; cooling fixtures; magnifying glass; insert fixtures; gauges; brushes; and milling machines

Responsibilities

  • Operate and control machinery, systems, and equipment to produce specialty refractory insulation products.
  • Read and adhere to work orders and various instructions, maintain production documentation.
  • Position and secure inserts, hand loads, and workpieces on machines.
  • Remove finished products from machines, using hand tools, air hoses, and other equipment.
  • Measure, test, and visually inspect products for surface and dimension defects, to ensure conformance to specifications; use precision measuring instruments.
  • Maintain company and customer quality standards, including testing services and processes.
  • Watch gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure machines work properly.
  • Supply information on labels and associated product documents; complete final packaging process for shipments.
  • Use a forklift to move products to warehouse.
  • Clean up; train team members on proper procedures and techniques.
  • Perform rework, cross-train in other departments, and support all team members.
