About The Position

The position of Manufacturing Process Engineer is within our CMI Unit located in San Diego, CA. In this role, the person will be expected to apply process engineering knowledge in support of technology transfer to clinical and commercial manufacturing at Abbott. In addition, they will also provide dedicated process engineering support for human implantable products in clinical development through commercial production. The opportunity is for an experienced professional individual contributor that works under limited supervision. This role requires the application of subject matter knowledge in the area of Pharmaceutical/Biological Process, with the capacity to apply skills/knowledge within the context of specific needs or requirements. As the experienced professional in the Pharmaceutical/Biological Process Sub-Function, the individual will possess well-developed skills in implementing and maintaining pharmaceutical/biological processes. Responsibilities include calculating and organizing all data for complex process flow sheets, modeling processes and unit operations, ensuring proper sequence of operation, preparing specifications and operating instructions for processing equipment, conducting tests and measurements throughout stages of production, servicing and troubleshooting engineering problems, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Requirements

  • BS degree in engineering or related field.
  • 1 year of experience in engineering role or similar role.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to use MS Office and other manufacturing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Apply process engineering knowledge in support of technology transfer to clinical and commercial manufacturing.
  • Provide dedicated process engineering support for human implantable products in clinical development through commercial production.
  • Calculate and organize all data for complex process flow sheets including instrumentation and control considerations.
  • Model processes and unit operations.
  • Ensure proper sequence of operation and prepare specifications and operating instructions for processing equipment.
  • Conduct tests and measurements throughout stages of production to determine control over variables such as temperature, density, pressure, and viscosity.
  • Service, troubleshoot, and solve engineering problems with processes or equipment already in operation.
  • Ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Be responsible for corrective and preventive actions and investigation management.
