About The Position

The Packaging Operator operates a range of manual or automated packaging equipment to package product for shipment and acts in accordance with the Core Values of Oil-Dri. This position reports to a Lead Person or the Packaging Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Pass the pre-employment tests at required results (WPT, Quantitative, verbal, BMCT, etc.).
  • Must be able to read, comprehend, and act on SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), PWI (Process Work Instructions), AIQ processes, and similar documents.
  • Must be able to understand and communicate all safety requirements and other communications.
  • Must be able to use technology to evaluate/communicate the status of the process/product.
  • Must be able to visually differentiate between different products and be able to hear warning alarms.
  • Must be able to read, understand and complete production schedules, bin check reports, quality defect tags, safety checks, production reports, defective product tags, product waste reports, and placards both raw and finished.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow quality management systems.
  • Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift. Carry/lift 50lbs for the duration of the shift if necessary.
  • Bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, walking, and climbing stairways and ladders frequently. Must be able to climb ladders to significant heights up to 20 feet.
  • Must be able to shovel and sweep in a dusty area using the provided dust masks.
  • Must be able to function in the required role while wearing appropriate PPE including, but not limited to: Safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, dust mask, protective coveralls, and other as may be required by a hot/cold, dusty, loud industrial environment.
  • Must be able to talk and hear radio communication.

Responsibilities

  • Operates one or more types of equipment: filler, baler, bag closure, stacker or palletizer, labeler, sewing machine, stretch and bale wrappers, shrink wrappers, conveyor, robotic bag placers, date coders, heat sealer, case and pale sealer, case erector & weigh scales.
  • Performs multiple manual tasks such as stacking, labeling, weighing, reworking, wrapping, case erecting, de-nesting, lid in-placement, bag insertion, threading of tape machine, magazine loading, and bulk bag filling as necessary.
  • Sets-up equipment, makes minor adjustments to equipment as necessary, performs daily inspections and keeps equipment clean and in good working order.
  • Inspects supplies such as jugs, boxes, and pallets to ensure usable quality and quantity levels are present and to inventory levels.
  • Samples packaged product to verify it meets specifications. Identifies non-conformance events and takes appropriate actions. Periodically weighs product to ensure weight specifications are met. Documents results.
  • Inputs environmental, production, shipping, downtime, etc. information on computer and/or handwritten reports.
  • Practices safe work habits and uses proper safety equipment per job requirements. Assists in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Participates in all corporate and local policies regarding safety; such as the Taft STOP program, reporting near misses and/or adhering to the principles of SHE Pillar. Obeys all Company, State, and Federal safety policies, rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
