About The Position

Are you a machinist who takes pride in precision, layout, and running manual equipment the right way? American Crane & Equipment Corporation (ACECO) is seeking a 2nd shift Manual Machinist to support the production of custom, heavy-duty components used in crane and hoist systems. This role is manual machining focused, where skill, setup, and craftsmanship matter every day.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • 3+ years of manual machining experience required
  • Strong experience with lathes, mills, and/or horizontal boring mills
  • Strong blueprint reading and interpretation
  • High level of precision measuring ability
  • Solid understanding of machining processes and material properties
  • Ability to independently set up and run manual machines
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
  • Ability to verify identity and employment authorization (Form I-9)
  • Eligibility to access information or technology governed by U.S. export control laws (including 10 C.F.R. Part 810, EAR, and/or ITAR), where applicable
  • Willingness to undergo a background check in accordance with applicable laws
  • Willingness to undergo a pre-employment drug screen in accordance with company policy and randomize drug screens during employment
  • Ability to meet the posted work schedule and work required hours
  • Ability to maintain reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Willingness to follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Willingness to wear appropriate PPE when in or around the shop areas
  • Willingness to complete required safety and compliance trainings

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work full-time hours, including overtime as needed.
  • Comfortable working near moving mechanical parts and in varied environmental conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational training or Machinist certification preferred
  • Experience working with large parts and heavy material preferred
  • Basic CNC familiarity is a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual machines including lathes, mills, horizontal boring mills, and drill presses
  • Perform precision machining on large, heavy, and custom components
  • Determine machining approach, tooling, and setup based on drawings and part requirements
  • Perform layout, alignment, and adjustments to ensure proper machining setup
  • Read and interpret blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining steps
  • Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.) to verify accuracy
  • Apply trigonometry and geometry to ensure precision in machining operations
  • Work primarily with steel and understand material behavior during machining
  • Select, set up, and maintain tooling for optimal performance
  • Perform tool sharpening and minor fixture/jig creation as needed
  • Assist with CNC machining operations when needed
  • Support setup or operation of CNC equipment based on skill level
