About The Position

Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts. Set up and operating manual lathes and/or mills. Read, interpret and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings and other written instructions. Analyzes design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates, according to knowledge of machine shop processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities. Lifts and positions work piece on machine table, manually or with hoist, and secures it, using clamps, bolts, or fixtures. Machining parts to print per specified tolerances. Determines reference points and direction of machine cutting paths. Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers. Perform quality work checks to insure the product meets quality standards, using in process inspection tools and devices. Use of overhead cranes to set up material on machines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training and certifications a plus.
  • Two to five years’ experience in large-part set up and machining and blueprint reading.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong math aptitude.
  • Ability to interpret machine prints, geometric tolerancing, and dimensioning.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as workload dictates.
  • Physical strength and ability to handle tooling and set up large work pieces.
  • Own tools of the trade and ability to use them effectively.
