Ready to machine big parts with bigger impact? Hydro, Inc., headquartered in Chicago, is the world’s largest independent pump rebuilder and a global industrial pump engineering company established in 1969. We are hiring a Manual Machining Technician in our West Loop Chicago facility. An 8,000 USD sign-on bonus is available for a machinist operating a VTL and Horizontal Boring Mill. What you will tackle Manual machining in a custom job shop focused on industrial pumps. Fabricate and finish impellers, wear rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals. Translate blueprints and sketches into efficient machining plans. Operate HBM, VBM, VTL, manual lathes, and ID/OD grinders for precision work. Measure, verify, and document critical dimensions with precision instruments. Improve procedures for safety, accuracy, and throughput. Perform routine maintenance and keep machines in optimal condition. Follow Hydro’s shop safety standards at all times. Partner with engineers and peers to troubleshoot and problem-solve.

Requirements

  • Solid shop math and geometry for angles, radii, and bolt circles.
  • Knowledge of feed rates and how adjustments affect results.
  • Expertise in jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps.
  • Proven ability to machine 3 to 10 ft pump shafts and hold 0.0005 in or tighter using a steady rest.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong manual dexterity, excellent coordination and control.
  • 5+ years of post-training experience machining large parts on manual equipment in an industrial environment.
  • Technical or vocational machining program completed; journeyman preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
