About The Position

The Managing Underwriter - VP is responsible for underwriting and risk assessment of commercial lease and loan transactions by preparing underwriting analysis and transactions, and approving transactions within assigned credit authority. This role involves the preparation of comprehensive Credit Offering Memoranda covering key aspects of financial and credit risk elements, obligor credit profile, etc., including determination of dual risk rating. The position requires communication with internal or external sources to request specific information required for analysis and entails having and using credit authority, including reviewing and approving junior level credit actions as permitted with Flagstar Financial & Leasing Equipment Policy. The Managing Underwriter will be the final approver for those transactions within their respective credit authority and will mentor and assist junior underwriting staff as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree (4 years or equivalent) with a concentration in Accounting and/or Finance preferred.
  • Minimum 8-10 years foundational experience.
  • Credit analysis and financial statement analysis experience required.
  • Prior credit authority.
  • Prior experience approving credits and managing the underwriting process of junior staff preferred.
  • High proficiency in analyzing financial statements, cash flow and financial ratio analysis required.
  • Moody's Risk Analyst/CreditLens Software a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of comprehensive Credit Offering Memoranda covering key aspects of financial and credit risk elements, obligor credit profile, etc.
  • Communicates with internal or external sources to request specific information required for analysis.
  • Has and uses credit authority, including reviewing and approving junior level credit actions as permitted with Flagstar Financial & Leasing Equipment Policy.
  • Will be final approver for those transactions within respective credit authority.
  • Mentors and assists junior underwriting staff, as appropriate.
  • Reviewing transaction terms and conditions of exposures that are generally in excess of $5MM and can range to upwards of $50MM.
  • Reviewing the strength and experience of new and existing obligors.
  • Preparing financial statement spreads in CreditLens and reviewing the adequacy of supporting financial information.
  • Make recommendations to an equal or senior level underwriting position for final disposition of transactions outside of credit authority.
  • Reviewing compliance with Bank and FFL policies.
  • Reviewing key financial results, ratios and transaction structure elements including the adequacy of the debt service coverage and loan to value.
  • Identifying any other missing information or inquiries for credit decisioning.
  • Directs and oversees underwriters workflow and assignments to ensure timely turnaround and use of personnel.
  • Assist with departmental duties as directed by their supervisor.
  • May manage business line underwriting group, as may be assigned, including recruiting, training, compliance, etc.
