About The Position

We are currently seeking an experienced Managing Scientist for our Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice to be based in our Philadelphia, PA or Burlington, MA office. In this role you will work as part of a team to provide technical support on existing projects and business development efforts in the Biological and Ecological Sciences Practice. You will be responsible for Strategic business development and client networking with the aim to grow a broad range of science and engineering technical services related to global fate and transport of chemicals, their associated potential risks, and impacts to regulatory initiatives Understanding and interpreting water resources and land-use activities, focusing on emerging chemicals and associated products (e.g., plastics and microplastics), including government regulations, environmental monitoring, site infrastructure, and production processes Directing and supporting the conduct of analyses and preparing regulatory documents and expert reports Synthesizing technical information and applying creative and critical thinking to prepare and review reports and technical presentations Developing and maintaining professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications, and participating in technical conferences and activities of professional societies Working cooperatively on projects with other members of the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Water Resources, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, or another related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with at least 4 years of direct consulting experience
  • Expert-level knowledge of emerging chemicals and plastics/microplastics in the environment
  • Strong understanding of scientific sampling methodologies and state-of-science on a broad range of terrestrial, wildlife, soil, and water quality issues
  • Proven experience with data analysis, modeling, and statistics
  • Proven experience in the assessment of risk
  • Proven experience managing tasks of moderate scope and complexity
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines, and communicate within multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications
  • Strong commitment to personal development and the development of staff
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States. No immigration sponsorship or processing required.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations pertinent to water quality and related environmental sciences, including ESA, NEPA, TSCA, REACH, RCRA, CERCLA, and Clean Water Act in the U.S. and similar laws and regulations in other countries
  • Experience in addressing both proactive and litigation-related matters
