About The Position

McKesson's Law Department is seeking an experienced strategic healthcare and transactional lawyer to join the SCRI legal team as the Managing Lead Counsel. This role is pivotal in providing legal advice and support for all aspects of the Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), with a specific focus on clinical research, Contract Research Organizations (CROs), and Site Management Organizations (SMOs). The Managing Lead Counsel will be responsible for guiding a team of legal professionals and collaborating effectively with executives and other stakeholders across the Oncology Ecosystem. The ideal candidate will be a thought leader in clinical trials, staying abreast of industry trends and regulations, and will play a crucial role in the joint venture established between McKesson and HCA Healthcare aimed at enhancing clinical research and drug development. In this position, you will serve as the primary legal advisor to SCRI senior leadership on a wide range of topics, including legal risk mitigation, sponsor and research site relationships, contract drafting, and strategic initiatives. You will manage a team of legal professionals, providing guidance and support in these areas while engaging in frequent interactions with other internal legal and business stakeholders across the Oncology Ecosystem and functional groups. This role requires a high level of comfort in providing healthcare regulatory advice, particularly in areas such as Anti-kickback law, FDA regulations, government affairs, and antitrust issues. The Managing Lead Counsel will also need to demonstrate proven legal team management experience and a strong desire to develop and manage a team of high-functioning legal professionals. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, as you will be expected to provide sound, clear legal advice to all levels within the company, including senior business executives. The position demands superior commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills, a proactive and solutions-oriented approach, and the ability to work closely with large cross-functional teams. Notable business acumen in risk management and organizational savvy is also required, along with the ability to develop strong working relationships and work collaboratively with internal clients and other members of the legal senior team.
