About The Position

Valor Collegiate Academies is seeking a dynamic Managing Director of Athletics who is excited to share our mission of empowering scholars to live inspired and purposeful lives. The Managing Director of Athletics is responsible for the development, supervision, and implementation of a high quality athletics program that aligns with Valor’s mission, develops high character athletes through the Valor Compass model, and meets the needs of scholar athletes. Currently, Valor offers volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, golf, wrestling, lacrosse, track, tennis, and cross country for middle school and/or high school students throughout the academic year. The Managing Director of Athletics will lead all aspects of Middle and High School Athletics to ensure Valor’s athletic program is designed to effectively lead scholars’ athletic development in a positive and competitive environment. Sports currently offered under a co-op with a local school.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Previous experience with a TSSAA or state athletic sanctioned school preferred.
  • Prior coaching, school leadership, and/or experience in a character-first educational environment are highly preferred.
  • Proven track-record of achievement in previous leadership positions.
  • Relentless drive to improve the lives of scholar-athletes on and off the field of play.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Strong planning, organizing and leadership/supervisory skills.
  • Commitment to use data and technology to personalize development for both adults and scholar-athletes.
  • Commitment and enthusiasm for working with an ethnically and economically diverse student body.
  • Grit and perseverance to work within a fast-paced, start-up environment.

Responsibilities

  • Enact the vision for athletics at Valor - a character first, Compass-integrated program - and ensure it is carried out with excellence
  • Responsible for overall culture of the the athletic program, including development and coordination of training for coaches on Compass-in-Athletics
  • Maintain and enforce athletic policies that meet the highest standards of safety and accountability.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of student athletes by implementing safety guidelines and training of coaches, volunteers, and students.
  • Develop and manage the budget for the athletic program.
  • Oversee overall program compliance, adhering to the league compliance policies, collecting and maintaining all attendance forms, health forms, athletic records, and other related documents.
  • Hire, lead, develop, and meet regularly with coaches to ensure their understanding of and compliance with the school’s coaching and culture philosophy, team rules, athletic policies, and game schedules.
  • Partner with our athletics committee to drive the vision for athletics at Valor
  • Ensure officials are scheduled and contracts are issued for all school games.
  • Promote Valor athletics through social media and athletics website.
  • Support all sport teams regularly by attending both home and away games.
  • Schedule and secure facility space for all practices and games.
  • Oversee compass-in-athletics integration, and overall culture of the the athletic program
  • Create and distribute rosters, schedules, handbooks, etc. for each sports program.
  • Coordinate the athletic calendar in accordance with the master school calendar.
  • Maintain full inventory of, and ordering as necessary, uniforms, supplies and equipment.
  • Attend required meetings/events according to district and school requirements.
  • Observe coaches in practice and in games to assess their knowledge of the sport, coaching capabilities, and ability to support their players.
  • Enforce, uphold, and exhibit the school's values, student management policies, and culture.
  • Own arrival duty or dismissal traffic duty to support school-based needs.
  • Sits on Built to Last anchor team at the network level and works to fulfill overall mission of school as part of the Built to Last team as necessary
