About The Position

The NFTC Foundation seeks a Managing Director to expand its work and manage a new campaign to explore the future of U.S. global economic leadership. This is a newly-created, full-time position based in Washington, D.C., that reports to the NFTC President. The NFTC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization affiliated with the National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC). The NFTC Foundation’s mission is to inspire, promote, encourage, and facilitate international trade and investment in order to enhance economic growth and job creation throughout the world. The Foundation conducts research, educational activities, and programming, including hosting its annual World Trade Dinner and a separate international tax conference, to advance its mission. The NFTC Foundation houses the Global Innovation Forum, an educational effort to engage a network of small businesses, nonprofit leaders, and government officials to explore the role of trade policies and programs in fostering resilience and access to the global economy. The NFTC Foundation is co-located with the NFTC, a recognized leader in advancing the interests of U.S. companies in international commerce. For over 100 years, NFTC has provided members with strategic advice and advocacy to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the global economy. Today, NFTC is a thought leader and principal interlocutor between businesses and policymakers in areas ranging from international trade agreements and tax treaties to tariffs, supply chain flows, digital trade policies, and export controls.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant experience working on economic policy issues. Previous experience in government, business, and/or nonprofit association settings is strongly preferred.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and a commitment to help scale the Foundation and create impact at the intersection of business and public policy.
  • Familiarity with international economic issues and demonstrated ability to evaluate and communicate the impact of complex policy, legislative, and regulatory changes on businesses.
  • Experience developing, coordinating, and executing educational or advocacy meetings, outreach, and initiatives.
  • A proven ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse business and government stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail, agility in managing changing priorities, creating and implementing standard processes and procedures to create efficiencies, and effectively managing and executing multiple projects and campaigns at the same time.
  • A proven ability to work collaboratively as a team as well as independently, including ensuring clear ownership and roles in the execution of tasks, projects, and events, effectively communicating and meeting expectations and deadlines, and driving consensus and alignment with teammates and key stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience writing public comments, letters, policy briefs, and thought pieces, ability to serve as a source for print and broadcast media, and a demonstrated capability to distill complex topics into clear, concise, and actionable advice with brevity and precision.
  • The ability to travel for business purposes up to 40% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • A post-graduate degree in international economics, international affairs, public policy, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in government, business, and/or nonprofit association settings is strongly preferred.
