About The Position

The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) is seeking a Managing Director, Member Services to lead its efforts in enhancing member services and benefits for its global membership. ICMA is dedicated to advancing professional local government through leadership, management, innovation, and ethics, serving over 14,000 members worldwide. The Managing Director will report to the CEO/Executive Director and manage a professional staff of 18, focusing on membership growth, retention, and the implementation of various membership programs, including the Ethics Program. This position is currently remote, with regular in-person meetings expected.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in public administration, public policy, business administration, or related discipline.
  • 8 or more years of progressive leadership experience in association management or local government management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies to design and deliver services and benefits for all segments of ICMA's membership.
  • Oversee membership programs, benefits, and services including career advancement, ethics, and relationship management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with members and stakeholders, including travel to meetings and conferences.
  • Monitor and assess member feedback, addressing concerns and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Develop and execute a strategic plan to increase membership numbers and diversify membership.
  • Use data-driven approaches to improve membership and engagement.
  • Collect and analyze membership data to identify growth and retention opportunities.
  • Select, manage, develop, and oversee staff performance.
  • Manage team budget for membership benefits and service programs.
  • Direct the creation and implementation of strategies to promote local government management as a career.
  • Provide technical advice on local government policies and represent ICMA's position on ethics.
  • Develop partnerships with organizations focused on local government management.
  • Participate in conference planning and training events.
  • Create and manage content for newsletters and communication channels.
  • Advise the CEO/Executive Director on operational plans.
  • Collaborate with the ICMA Executive Board on policy development.
