About The Position

This position reports to the Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer. The position is fully accountable for leading and continuously developing a team of Portfolio Managers that provides expert analysis and recommendations for most return generating investments, including but not limited to private and public equity, private credit, hedge funds, and real assets, across all investment trusts under the purview of the investment office. The span of control of this role encompasses overseeing the origination efforts of new investment opportunities across all of these areas, the design and execution of effective investment due diligence procedures of prospective investment opportunities as may be appropriate, and all hiring, monitoring, termination and transition management decisions. This position is also responsible for implementation of a co-investment framework and execution thereof to better control the overall cost and flexibility of the investment program. This position is expected to have an informed and constructive voice in the approval of all formal investment decisions undertaken by the investment office, including those beyond his/her direct lines of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Minimum 12 years of investing experience in an institutional setting.
  • MBA preferred; CFA or CAIA additionally beneficial.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage relationships with outside investment managers and to interface with Exelon senior executives and committee members.
  • Ability to lead a team and execute strategy.
  • Proven ability to apply solid investment judgment.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of investment, finance, economic practices, and performance measurement techniques with specific emphasis on less liquid investment strategies.
  • Well-acquainted with current topics and trends impacting the institutional investing landscape.
  • Highly organized.
  • Superior financial analysis skills with practical twist.
  • 5 years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects of investment activity across segments noted above, including overall direction and strategies within these asset classes.
  • Identification of appropriate funds and investment managers, investment and operational due diligence and all related sourcing, hiring, monitoring and terminations of investment managers.
  • Leads development efforts on technical criteria for selection and monitoring of outside investment funds and managers.
  • Reviews industry trends to identify and monitor top investment managers/funds to determine their appropriateness and effectiveness within investment strategy.
  • Establishes, executes, and oversees a framework for including co-investments in investment trusts where appropriate.
  • Spearheads initiatives with third party service providers relevant to asset classes of focus to assist the investment office's ability to enhance the quality of decision making at critical junctures.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with the institutional investment community and key participants within the investment community.
  • Uses strong investment expertise, experience and capital market knowledge to develop and make appropriate evaluations and recommendations for investments across investment trusts.
  • Establish feedback loop mechanisms to keep other members of the investment office informed of important developments within the portfolio.
  • Attend relevant industry events and conferences to ensure investment office is retaining and improving its competitive position in the marketplace.
  • Work closely with Chief Investment Officer, Managing Director of Liability Hedging, Fixed Income and Risk, and Managing Director of Investment Operations to formulate and implement policies across the investment office as required.
  • Serve as a resource for other Corporate functions with respect to investment managers, strategies, and structures where the investment office has particular insights.
  • Present to Investment Committee and other internal stakeholders on topics related to return seeking investments and asset classes under the purview of this position.
  • Share responsibility for developing and mentoring investment staff, with specific emphasis on the portfolio managers within his/her direct reporting lines.
  • Coach portfolio managers to help them improve investment judgment and broaden/deepen areas of existing expertise.
  • Ensure high degree of team integration across the investment team to better build and maintain the institutional knowledge of the investment office.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $231,200.00/Yr. - $317,900.00/Yr. plus an additional $50K in Long Term Incentive Plan annually.
