About The Position

The Managing Director, Nuclear Engineering is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of nuclear engineering and design for AEP’s new nuclear development activities. This includes strategic planning, budgeting, staffing, technical direction, and ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and corporate standards. Additionally, this role will lead efforts that contribute to the effective execution of projects and organizational development activities for advanced nuclear generation technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in engineering
  • Eight (8) years in nuclear power plant operations
  • Four (4) years must be in management
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in any state of the U. S. is desirable.
  • Physical demand level is Sedentary.
  • Perform duties that may involve work in hazardous areas and possible radiation exposure within the limits prescribed by the NRC.

Nice To Haves

  • Shift Technical Advisor/Senior Reactor Operator experience, license, and/or certification desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the technical vision and direction for the nuclear development engineering organization. This includes development of long-range strategies as well as more near-term tactical goals and action plans for the organization.
  • Direct and supervise engineering and design activities, ensuring alignment with project schedules, budgets, and resource availability.
  • Establish engineering design standards and guidelines conforming to all regulatory and licensing requirements to support safe, reliable, and cost-effective nuclear project execution and operations.
  • Evaluate and introduce appropriate new technologies and vendor product applications and develop system engineering design and equipment standards to leverage cost and performance objectives.
  • Lead the development of annual work plans and resource forecasts, supporting project scoping, estimating, and onboarding.
  • Develop and maintain internal Capital and O&M budgets and administer the salary/compensation forecasts and budgets for the nuclear development engineering.
  • Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with the policies, practices, standards and rules of the Company and regulations and procedures as required by federal, state, or local regulating agencies.
  • Promote and enforce nuclear safety and health practices and programs.
  • Recruit, hire, and develop staff, including oversight of internal and external resources.
  • Ensure that quality control processes and practices are in place to align with the nuclear quality expectations and metrics.
  • Direct and develop nuclear engineering strategies and manage engineering service provider performance.
  • Stay informed on related nuclear industry trends, technology and benchmarking that provide benefit and opportunity for AEP and pursue those opportunities that best leverage nuclear system cost and performance objectives.
  • Provide appropriate liaison with internal stakeholders and customers for information input, policy dissemination, and technical support to support AEP’s nuclear development activities.
