About The Position

The Managing Director (MD) is the senior leader accountable for the performance, growth, and overall health of Pioneer’s Minneapolis business. You are a force multiplier—elevating leaders, strengthening client relationships, driving disciplined growth, and ensuring delivery excellence at scale. This role requires deep experience in the Energy & Infrastructure sector, with particular strength in electric and gas utilities. The Managing Director brings credibility with utility executives, understands regulated operating environments, and translates complex capital, operational, and transformation challenges into practical, executable outcomes.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in consulting or professional services, with a strong emphasis on Energy & Infrastructure and regulated utility environments
  • Proven success leading complex client portfolios and senior executive relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to grow revenue, manage margins, and own P&L outcomes
  • Track record of building, scaling, and leading high-performing teams
  • Strong executive presence, communication, and influence
  • Strategic, entrepreneurial mindset with sound judgment and decisiveness
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, high-accountability, growth-oriented environment
  • Recognized expertise in one or more industry, functional, or solution domains
  • Demonstrated experience serving electric and/or gas utilities across strategy, operations, technology, capital programs, or enterprise transformation
  • Established executive relationships within the utility and broader Energy & Infrastructure sector
  • Proven ability to operate credibly with boards, regulators, and senior utility leadership
  • Experience leading consulting teams through complex, capital-intensive, multi-stakeholder environments

Responsibilities

  • Lead Talent & Build High-Performing Teams You build and sustain a market of elite talent and strong leaders. Recruit, develop, and retain top-tier consulting talent across all levels Coach, mentor, and hold accountable Directors, Principals, and emerging leaders Set clear expectations for performance, growth, and leadership readiness Own succession planning, bench strength, and future capability needs Drive performance management, promotion calibration, and compensation inputs Champion a culture of Humble, Hungry, Connected (HHC), belonging, and high accountability Ensure engagement, retention, and leadership depth scale with market growth Provide executive oversight on large-scale utility and infrastructure engagements, including capital programs, grid modernization, generation, transmission, and operational transformation initiatives Navigate regulated environments, public utility commissions, and multi-stakeholder delivery models with confidence and credibility Ensure delivery teams understand utility operating models, capital governance, and regulatory constraints
  • Ensure Delivery Excellence & Client Success You guarantee high-value, high-quality delivery—every time. Provide executive oversight on complex, high-risk, or high-visibility engagements Diagnose delivery risk early and intervene with clarity, calm, and action Own utilization strategy, bench planning, and resource forecasting Ensure KPIs are consistently met or exceeded, including: client satisfaction (CSAT), profitability, on-time/on-budget delivery Match practice and solution expertise to client needs Translate market feedback into actionable input for National Solutions Leaders Bring the Pioneer operating model to life across all engagement
  • Lead Talent & Build High-Performing Teams You own your market’s revenue, margin, and pipeline—and you hit the numbers. Build and sustain trusted relationships with utility CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CIOs, and major capital project executives Leverage existing Energy & Infrastructure relationships to originate, expand, and protect key utility accounts Sponsor complex, high-value pursuits in the utility sector, including multi-year programs and enterprise-scale transformations Represent Pioneer as a credible thought partner within the regional Energy & Infrastructure ecosystem Guide Account Leads in setting and executing disciplined annual account plans Partner with Client Development and National Solutions Leaders on go-to-market strategy Ensure disciplined pipeline management and CRM / ERP accuracy Share market wins and delivery success stories to strengthen firmwide momentum and confidence
  • Run Your Portfolio Like a Business You are the operator of your assigned market portfolio. Lead annual market planning across revenue, hiring, margin, investments, and strategy Own P&L performance while balancing growth, efficiency, and long-term health Drive weekly and quarterly business reviews covering pipeline, utilization, financial performance, and delivery health Ensure consistent execution of firmwide processes and strategic initiatives Foster strong cross-market collaboration and high-trust leadership Create clarity in priorities and manage time, energy, and focus with discipline

Benefits

  • The estimated salary range for this role is $180,000-270,000 annually.
  • Bonuses and other incentives are awarded at the Company’s discretion and are based upon individual contributions and overall company performance.
