About The Position

The Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer-LSBX (MD, COO-LSBX) serves as the deputy to the EVP, Managing Director/President-LSBX with significant authority to lead and oversee the execution and administration of the Line of Business and influence structures, processes and controls of the shared services functions that support the Line of Business. The MD, COO-LSBX leads the front-to-back diligence, implementation and onboarding processes for new partners and the addition of new products, services or features for existing partners, including the related financial forecasts and projections, documentation of the flow of funds, roles and responsibilities matrices and set up and maintenance of the related control framework. The MD, COO-LSBX oversees the day-to-day execution and administration of the Line of Business with primary responsibility for LSBX financial outcomes (e.g., profit and loss, expense management) and the overarching planning, budgeting and strategic initiatives at the request of the EVP, Managing Director/President-LSBX. This involves coordination and collaboration with the LSBX Business Development Manager, LSBX Relationship Manager, LSBX Program Manager and leadership of the support and control functions and providing authoritative and strategic direction on all aspects of new programs and changes to existing programs, including documentation and maintenance of financial models, detailed funds flows, control framework requirements, operational processes, infrastructure and technical needs, data and reporting requirements, regulatory communications and governance approvals. The MD, COO-LSBX will directly manage the middle of the partner pipeline funnel and have a deep working knowledge of each partnership and program to effectively and efficiently onboard partners and resolve any issues or bottlenecks to realize revenues in a timely manner, including working with partners through product and technical details to improve outcomes as part of testing, proof of concepts and pilot phases. The MD, COO-LSBX will report to the EVP, Managing Director/President-LSBX and interface with key senior internal and external stakeholders and governance bodies to implement programs in a standardized, sustainable and repeatable manner with pipeline activities and active partnerships managed and reported through Salesforce. The MD, COO-LSBX should also proactively pursue automation and other cost optimization and risk reduction opportunities routinely as the Line of Business grows and scales through the expansion of existing partnerships and addition of new partnerships. The MD, COO-LSBX will oversee two direct reports, the LSBX Relationship Manager and the LSBX Program Manager, with the potential to expand the team over time as the Line of Business grows and scales. The LSBX Relationship Manager is responsible for customer success, partner engagement, quarterly business reviews (QBRs), governance sessions and recurring meetings with key internal and external stakeholders. The LSBX Program Manager is responsible for partner pipeline status, policy and procedural documentation, first line of defense control framework, partner and vendor contracts, billing and invoicing, data, reporting and management information (including KPIs and KRIs) and certain reconciliation processes. The MD, COO-LSBX will, in turn, oversee the execution of these responsibilities and seek out automation opportunities associated therewith.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or other related field
  • +15 years experience within a financial institution or financial services
  • +10 years corporate treasury, financial management, line of business or risk management experience
  • +5 years leading 1st or 2nd LoD teams for production, sales or front office units
  • Significant experience conducting/leading implementations, integrations, risk assessments and control/issue remediation
  • Significant experience working with product heads and business unit executives in defining business risks within strategy and control adequacy
  • Experience in risk assessments and relationship monitoring
  • Experience in mapping risks and controls within processes
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting process redesign with control and inline quality assurance and quality control build out
  • Dynamic engagement style and highly comfortable in scenarios where information is quickly evolving as a partnership opportunity becomes more defined
  • Some travel expected (e.g., to Bank offices for governance and strategic planning sessions, to industry conferences, to meet with partners)

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with fintech partnerships, banking-as-a-service (BaaS) or embedded finance relationships or similar digital relationships, including implementation initiatives and control framework build outs
  • Working knowledge of consumer regulations - including Reg CC, Reg E, UDAAP, Fair Lending, etc.
  • Working knowledge of FinCen guidance for CIP, KYC/KYB
  • Experience building and documenting SOX controls
  • Working knowledge of 1st party and 3rd party payment risks
  • Working knowledge of IT and Cyber Security risks and common controls with API-based relationships, as well as experience with SOC IIs or similar control certifications

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for LSBX financial outcomes and budgeting processes to ensure targets are met or exceeded, identifying people, process and technology enhancements, as necessary
  • Act as a thought leader to design and maintain standardized and streamlined onboarding processes and documentation to effectively onboard new activities and realize revenues in as timely a manner as possible
  • Liaise with support and control functions and risk and compliance disciplines to gather and incorporate feedback from key stakeholders to inform and enhance program characteristics from a financial, operational and risk/compliance perspective
  • Create, organize and maintain comprehensive diligence, implementation, testing, control framework and onboarding documentation for all LSBX programs, ensuring clarity and ready accessibility for stakeholders requiring the related information
  • Perform first line of defense inherent risk assessments for new programs and annual reviews and trigger residual risk assessment due diligence for new programs and annual reviews
  • Lead all pre-launch, implementation, testing, control framework and onboarding activities for new programs, including governance materials, financial forecasts, flow of funds, roles and responsibilities matrices, contractual documentation, data and reporting requirements, risk and compliance reviews, account openings, risk treatment and monitoring plans and regulatory and stakeholder communications
  • Collaborate with partners and shared services functions to ensure effective, efficient and prudent operational processes and control frameworks are established and maintained
  • Support new program implementation through upfront risk mapping, control build out and pre-go live control readiness assessments
  • Work with new fintech opportunities/expansions to define potential risks and necessary controls during early scoping
  • Partner with business relationship managers and fintech partners on upfront due diligence and ongoing monitoring
