Toyota's Legal Department (TL1) is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Business Litigation (BL) Managing Counsel. This role is pivotal in managing complex consumer class actions and overseeing a wide range of pre-litigation and litigation matters. The Managing Counsel will be responsible for identifying and developing customer-focused solutions while providing critical legal guidance and direction to business stakeholders. This position requires close collaboration with the BL team, other Managing Counsel, and paralegals to achieve optimal results in a cost-effective manner. The selected candidate will report to the Vice President/Deputy General Counsel and will be based at Toyota's North American headquarters in Plano, Texas. It is essential for the candidate to reside within a commutable distance from this location. In this role, the Managing Counsel will manage, coordinate, and oversee high-stakes lawsuits involving Toyota Motor North America (TMNA), which includes consumer class actions, antitrust matters, general commercial disputes, and regulatory controversies. The position involves working with outside counsel to ensure a best-in-class defense for TMNA and its parent company, TMC, in litigated matters. The Managing Counsel will also provide strategic advice and counsel to various levels of the business to mitigate legal risks, addressing pre-litigation claims, demand letters, and inquiries from regulators and government entities. Efficient and cost-effective management of litigation that aligns with business goals is crucial, as is engaging in civil justice reform efforts and collaborating with other Toyota global regions. Additionally, the Managing Counsel will communicate with management, colleagues in Japan, and other Toyota stakeholders on litigation and special projects as needed to support TL1 and the litigation group.
