About The Position

ERM is seeking an experienced Managing Consultant, Scientist/Project Manager to play a key role in growing our business in our Overland Park, KS office. The ideal candidate will have experience leading wetland, biological field assessments and permitting projects related to renewable energy, transmission, or other capital project developments. Renewable energy experience is preferred. This is an excellent opportunity to advance your career with ERM’s experienced consulting teams in renewable energy permitting, with additional opportunities to contribute to onshore wind, electrical transmission, oil & gas, and technology infrastructure projects. As a senior technical leader and project manager, you will manage permitting and/or due diligence processes, provide leadership in biological field surveys, conduct research to define permitting requirements, coordinate with relevant jurisdictions during permitting processes, develop permitting plans, and develop or coordinate permit applications. You will also be part of teams conducting National Environmental Policy Act compliance, Endangered Species Act (ESA) Section 7 & 10, state-level equivalent reviews, and environmental permitting for large-scale capital projects in the Great Plains, Midwest, and beyond.

Requirements

• BS in biology, ecology, or the environmental sciences; MS preferred.
• +10 years experience preferred of due diligence and/or permitting experience, including consulting for private-sector clients.
• High degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of biological field assessment and permitting practices.
• Experience with Endangered Species Act Section 10 and 7 including Incidental Take Permits, Habitat Conservation Plans, and/or Biological Assessments.
• Well-developed teambuilding and influencing skills; unquestioned integrity.
• Experience with federal, state, and local permitting in Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, or Oklahoma is strongly preferred.
• Solid experience building sustaining relationships with major clients.
• Excellent writing, communication, presentation, strategic thinking, and 'people' skills.
• Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
• Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Eagle and Habitat Conservation Plans and Incidental Take Permits preferred.
• Recognized technical expertise by and established reputation in the local marketplace.

Responsibilities

• Manage and provide technical expertise on biological field surveys, habitat assessments, and species-specific surveys including birds and bats.
• Lead preparation of local, state, and federal permitting documents.
• Contribute to preparing permitting deliverables, serving in roles ranging from lead technical expert to quality review.
• Manage project delivery activities such as report writing, data collection and survey field work, data and literature review, and development of recommendations for clients.
• Oversee multiple projects within client’s scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
• Prepare technical proposals, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates, and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads.
• Maintain client relationships to support repeat business.
• Collaborate with other ERM practitioners to execute Impact Assessment and Permitting (IAP) projects.
• Supervise junior- and mid-level consulting staff to develop their skill sets in technical planning and permitting.
• Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees locally, regionally, and nationwide.
