About The Position

You will serve as the organization’s primary advocate and strategist for U.S. federal and state policy engagement, advancing public policy and government funding initiatives that support workforce development, professional certification, and training standards for Project Management. As the sole U.S. government affairs professional, this individual will independently develop and execute advocacy strategies to expand recognition of project management as a critical profession, increase access to federal and state workforce funding, and strengthen relationships with key policymakers and stakeholders, aligning our approach to PMI’s impact strategy and PMI regional priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Government, Business or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 5–7+ years of experience in government affairs, legislative relations, or public policy—preferably in workforce development, education policy, professional certification, or a related association/nonprofit setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop and execute government relations strategies without the support of a large internal team or outside lobbying firm.
  • Strong knowledge of federal workforce and education policy, including familiarity with programs such as WIOA, DoD COOL, and federal grantmaking processes.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex certification and workforce issues into compelling advocacy messages.
  • Proven success in building bipartisan relationships and navigating both legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Success partnering and communicating across matrixed organizations to drive change and accountability.
  • Self-motivated, relationship-driven professional with strong policy instincts and the ability to translate the value of project management credentials into actionable government engagement.
  • Experience of working in an agile, dynamic, and customer-centric environment.
  • Proficiency in the business language for PMI (English).
