About The Position

The Upward Bound Manager at the University of Utah is responsible for overseeing the TRIO Upward Bound Program, which supports first-generation, low-income, and disabled high school students. This role involves developing and implementing policies, managing financial objectives, and ensuring high-quality student services. The manager will work closely with educational institutions and community partners to enhance student engagement and success from admission through graduation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
  • Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience.
  • Background knowledge of the hiring department's area of specialization.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Four to six years of progressively more responsible professional staff management experience.
  • Two to three years of TRIO experience strongly preferred.
  • Two to three years of demonstrated ability to work effectively with low-income, first-generation students, including English Learners, and their families strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field may be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director in developing and implementing staff management and financial objectives for the Upward Bound program.
  • Conduct regular visits to high schools served by the Upward Bound grant.
  • Communicate regularly with public school administration and personnel.
  • Ensure student satisfaction by analyzing complaints and providing follow-through.
  • Assist in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, and evaluation of all Upward Bound staff.
  • Participate in the development and interpretation of department policies to ensure compliance with university policies and program effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Establish internal objectives and implement procedures to meet goals.
  • Supervise the creation and submission of all reports and record keeping, including the Annual Progress Report for the grant.
  • Coordinate marketing and recruitment efforts for program participants with the TRIO Director.
  • Assist the Director in developing partnerships with families to support academic achievement.
  • Assist the Director with program evaluations for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of the six-week summer academy.
  • Participate in relevant university-wide committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
