About the position

As Manager of Transportation Operations, you will work under administrative direction to manage, plan, organize, and coordinate the agency's day-to-day transportation operations to ensure the health and safety of employees and the quality of transit services to the community. You will advise the Senior Director of Transportation, manage the performance and development of employees, and take appropriate action regarding operational transit issues.

Responsibilities

  • Implement department policies, procedures, and practices consistent with agency policy, rules, and regulations.
  • Ensure effective administration of transportation operations.
  • Devise mechanisms to ensure consistent and equitable execution of policy and procedure.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Operations Officer and the Senior Director of Transportation to translate the business/strategic plan into a transportation operations strategy.
  • Recommend strategies and projects to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Determine staffing levels and establish work schedules, work assignments, and overtime as required to meet company goals and objectives.
  • Foster a work environment that promotes a balanced work-life approach.
  • Conduct staff performance reviews and evaluations, ensuring staff training and development.
  • Make hiring and disciplinary decisions and termination recommendations.
  • Advise the Senior Director on operational issues and concerns.
  • Recommend courses of action that impact operations.
  • Provide guidance and opinions regarding the impacts of decisions made throughout the Agency as they relate to Transportation Operations.
  • Lead and develop the Transportation Department's most valuable resource, its people, by providing a positive work environment through consistent communication, promoting accountability, and recognizing superior results.
  • Represent management in building positive union-management working relationships.
  • Resolve union and personnel issues at the lowest level possible through education, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • Administer labor agreements and adjust grievances.
  • Participate in contract negotiations and conduct research and cost analyses.
  • Provide a safe work environment and promote improvements in safety results, both accident and injury frequencies, as a top priority.
  • Direct response to accidents, emergency situations, employee conduct and security incidents, natural disasters, and severe weather conditions.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience in Operations.
  • 5 years of supervisory experience, with at least 3 years supervising union-represented employees.
  • Bachelor's degree in transportation, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
  • Current Washington State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have had a CDL in the last 5 years.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the job duties is also accepted.
