Job Overview The Manager, Outbound Transportation oversees store delivery transportation and furniture and bedding home delivery from one of Macy’s store delivery centers (SDC). This role may also include responsibility for any delivery hub operations supporting the store delivery center. The manager collaborates with SDC operations and dedicated or third-party carriers to optimize outbound deliveries for speed, cost, and service. They report directly to the Senior Manager, Outbound Transportation.

Requirements

  • Leadership: Ability to lead store delivery transportation operations and delivery hub operations effectively, ensuring smooth functioning and optimal performance.
  • Transportation Planning: Skill in planning and optimizing daily and seasonal routing plans in collaboration with Transportation Optimization to maximize efficiency.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate transportation plans and policies to store operations and address any questions or concerns.
  • Collaboration: Proficiency in collaborating with operations to align operating models and deliver the best possible service to stores and customers.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to leverage data and analytics to identify opportunities for cost reduction and performance improvement.
  • Performance Management: Ability to manage the performance of dedicated and third-party delivery providers through key performance indicators, ensuring adherence to standards.
  • Financial Acumen: Understanding of finance principles to partner with finance on monthly budget planning and key financial metrics.
  • Team Development: Focus on promoting effective team member development, fostering a supportive work environment.
  • Transportation Management Tools: Working understanding of transportation management tools such as Blue Yonder, facilitating efficient transportation operations.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Capability to solve problems efficiently and address issues directly as they arise, maintaining operational effectiveness.
  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Supply Chain, Operations, or Transportation.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead store delivery transportation for one of Macy’s store delivery centers and any associated delivery hubs in the service area.
  • Plan and optimize daily and seasonal routing plans in partnership with Transportation Optimization.
  • Integrate inbound and outbound transportation moves to optimize efficiency inclusive of backhaul.
  • Communicate transportation plans and policies to store operations and handle all questions and concerns.
  • Maintain best-in-class partnerships with our dedicated and third-party carriers.
  • Collaborate with operations to align operating models and deliver the best possible service to our stores and customers.
  • Leverage data and analytics to identify opportunities for cost and performance improvement.
  • Ensure all site equipment is properly maintained and communicate equipment replacement needs.
  • Manage the performance of dedicated and third-party delivery providers through key performance indicators.
  • Partner with finance on monthly budget planning and key financial metrics.
