About The Position

The Manager of Transmission at Fairfax Water is responsible for leading and managing the operation and maintenance of a large and complex water transmission system. This role involves overseeing daily operations, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with regulations while managing personnel and administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, natural or physical science, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in public water supply facilities, with at least five years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Virginia or ability to obtain within one year is preferred.
  • Possession of a Class V or higher Waterworks Operator's license is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of Virginia Waterworks Regulations and water distribution system hydraulics.
  • Considerable knowledge of installation, operation, and maintenance methods for water distribution systems.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of SCADA control systems.
  • Familiarity with computer modeling concepts and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage transmission system operations, including pump stations, storage tanks, and control valves.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on maintenance activities.
  • Prepare for and coordinate emergency responses to operational impacts.
  • Investigate and respond to customer inquiries and complaints about the transmission system.
  • Coordinate repairs and replacements of aging transmission mains with other departments and contractors.
  • Direct the valve exercise program and oversee maintenance of transmission facilities.
  • Manage water quality efforts related to storage tanks and chlorine residual data.
  • Plan and optimize the operation and maintenance of the transmission system.
  • Oversee daily activities of various operational sections including After Hours Dispatch and Mechanical Maintenance.
  • Conduct employee evaluations and support training and development of personnel.
  • Prepare records, reports, and recommendations on labor, materials, and costs.
