About The Position

Jeppesen ForeFlight is seeking a Training and Documentation Manager who is a passionate, people-first leader to guide our global Customer Training and Documentation team of Instructional Designers, Content Developers, and Instructors. We are an Aviation Software company operating in a very fast-paced development environment. In this role, you will lead and inspire a distributed global team responsible for the training content our customers rely on. Your primary mission is to build, mentor, and empower your people. We need someone who brings genuine energy to leadership—someone who loves seeing their team succeed and thrives in the energy of rapid software delivery.

Requirements

  • People Management: 5+ years of experience as a line manager. You must have a track record of hiring, developing, and retaining top talent. Experience managing remote/global teams is essential.
  • Modern Learning Expertise: Deep knowledge of up-to-date training methodologies, adult learning theories, current trends in AI, and instructional design (e.g., micro-learning, gamification, ILT/VILT). You know how to apply these concepts to drive customer adoption.
  • Fast-Paced Development Experience: Proven experience developing software training and documentation in a fast-paced software development environment. You must understand how to align content strategy with rapid release cycles.
  • Structured Content Knowledge: Familiarity with structured content frameworks (e.g., DITA/XML) and Component Content Management Systems (CCMS). You understand the operational benefits of content reuse and scalability in a global environment.
  • Innovation Mindset: A demonstrated history of implementing new technologies or methodologies that improved content quality or team efficiency. You are comfortable leading a team through change.
  • Stakeholder Skills: Proven ability to build relationships with cross-functional partners (Sales, Product, etc.) and manage expectations diplomatically.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aviation, aviation software, or other mission-critical technology environments
  • Background working in SaaS or enterprise software organizations
  • Familiarity with modern learning platforms such as LMS, CMS, or digital learning tools
  • Exposure to Agile or product-led development environments
  • Experience working with global teams or creating content for international audiences
  • Comfort using data or feedback to continuously improve training and documentation

Responsibilities

  • Talent Development & Team Growth
  • Passionate Coaching: You don't just "manage" employees; you champion them. You conduct meaningful 1:1s focused on personal growth, acting as a dedicated mentor who helps team members navigate their careers.
  • Empowerment: You trust your team. You provide the guardrails and support they need to do their best work, then get out of their way so they can shine.
  • Skill Building: You actively identify opportunities for the team to upskill (e.g., in new tech, development tools, or instructional design) and fight for the budget and time they need to do it.
  • Culture of Enthusiasm: You foster a psychologically safe, inclusive, and energetic environment where a global, remote team feels connected and valued.
  • Operational Innovation & Delivery
  • Customer-Centricity via Design Thinking: You shift the focus from "writing about features" to "solving user problems." You champion the use of Design Thinking principles (Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test) to ensure every piece of content addresses a verified customer need.
  • Status Quo Challenger: You are constantly looking for innovative ways to modernize our delivery. You look at "how we've always done it" and ask, "How can we do this better?" You push the team to evolve beyond static formats to deliver higher-quality, more engaging content.
  • Content Operations: You manage the team's velocity in a very fast-paced development environment. You ensure that training and documentation development happens in parallel with software development, not as an afterthought.
  • Execution Partner: You partner with the Lead Learning Experience Designer (LXD). While they focus on the learning strategy and development, you ensure the team has the operational capacity and organization to deliver on that vision.
  • Workflow Optimization: You proactively identify and eliminate inefficiency. You streamline the administrative processes and tools the team uses to collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Engineering.
  • Stakeholder Relationships & Business Alignment
  • The Bridge to Business: You build strong, trusting relationships with Portfolio Managers, Sales, and Customer Success. You understand how to balance the need for speed with the need for accuracy.
  • Strategic Demand Management: You work closely with Product leadership to gain visibility into the roadmap. You ensure your team is embedded in the development lifecycle, staying ahead of cycles so documentation is ready for "Day 0" software releases.
  • Advocacy: You are your team’s biggest fan. You educate the wider business on the value of high-quality documentation and training, ensuring stakeholders respect the effort required to produce it.
