About the position

The Manager Trainee position involves a comprehensive training program where the trainee will be exposed to operational procedures and expected to understand the processes that contribute to making a department efficient and profitable. The training will begin in the Dairy/Frozen Foods department, followed by rotation to the Night Crew Manager position. Upon successful evaluation, the trainee will advance to a department manager level. The role requires the ability to work in cold environments, with temperatures around -20F, and the necessity to work overnight shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules all departmental associates, oversees their training, evaluates their work, rewards and recognizes their performance, and delegates work assignments effectively.
  • Develops and implements merchandising plans, including creating attractive displays and promoting new items to meet sales and profit objectives.
  • Responsible for maintaining proper inventory levels and tracking records to calculate gross profits according to company guidelines.
  • Controls department costs by monitoring operations, controlling labor, and reducing losses due to shrinkage and pilferage.
  • Identifies areas for improvement in customer service and implements necessary changes and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate department records on important matters, including associate performance, recognition, and discipline.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of all aspects of grocery store operation.
  • Proven skills in analyzing P&L information and taking decisive action to meet budget expectations.
  • Proficiency in web-based computer applications, MS Outlook, Excel, and overall computer skills.
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts including nights and weekends.
  • Excellent communication skills with vendors, customers, and employees.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience as a manager in a grocery or home improvement store.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, good leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to get along with customers, vendors, suppliers, and associates, and to motivate and lead others.
