About The Position

The Manager, Tissue Recovery (TRM) works closely with the Director, Tissue Donation Services (TDS) to continually increase tissue donation and maintain acceptable rates of tissues recovered per donor. The TRM plays a primary role in training of TDS staff, serves as a key liaison between LifeCenter Northwest (LCNW) and our affiliated processing programs, and in addition to assigned supervisory responsibilities, may be available and serve as a subject matter expert on cases.

  • Travel is essential to this position; the employee must be prepared to travel by automobile and airplane and may be requested to operate a company vehicle.
  • This position requires the ability to effectively operate phones, computers, and other office equipment.
  • The individual must have the ability to communicate clearly in English to accurately convey information.
  • Work is normally performed in an office, health care setting or similar facilities, or other business environments. Generally, working conditions have exposure to bio-hazardous materials.
  • Must have the physical ability to move and/or remain stationary for long periods of time during shift.
  • This position is required to follow hospital immunization, health screening, and background check requirements. Immunizations and tests will be provided by LifeCenter as required.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee is required to move up to 75 pounds with or without assistance.
  • This position requires on-call availability, night, weekend work, holidays, and may have to work extended shifts. Some duties are required to be completed outside of call schedule.
  • Degree in related health care/science, or certification required.
  • Relevant work experience can be considered and substituted for academic requirements.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in tissue recovery or comparable field required. Working familiarity with tissue processing and graft utilization is preferred. Ability to independently recover all tissue types is preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Leadership /supervisory experience required.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and access to an insured automobile for work-related functions at expected times.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or applicable medical or religious exemption will be required as a condition of employment upon offer.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the Director, Tissue Donation Services to maximize the number of tissue donors and grafts recovered for transplantation and research.
  • Directs recovery activities focusing on opportunities to maximize efficiencies including special projects focused on improving recovery processes and outcomes.
  • Ensures recovery documentation is compliant with operational policies and procedures, regulatory, and accreditation agencies.
  • Develops and maintains professional and productive relationships with processing partners, medical professionals, hospitals, vendors, and donation organizations.
  • Collaborates with Hospital Development team to ensure LCNW is positively and accurately represented.
  • Provide effective coaching to engage, support, and motivate staff to realize their greatest potential in service of LCNW’s mission.
  • Ensures effective communication and coordination with all LCNW Tissue Recovery team personnel.
  • Manages performance review process and personal development plans.
  • Assists in the development and day-to-day management of departmental budget.
  • Assists the Director, Tissue Donation in yearly policy review and creation of new policy, job aides, and work instructions.
  • May participate in the call schedule on a discretionary basis to facilitate staff evaluations, signoffs, or as an additional team member for high case volume.
  • Works with the Materials Management Program Manager and Tissue Technical Trainer to monitor equipment needs and may send equipment for repair when necessary.
  • Tracks Surgical Reports from processors, and identifies trends, such as noting any surgical errors etc.
  • Takes call as Administrator on Call for triaging and screening cases.
  • Takes 24-hour call to be available for activity associated with tissue recovery including AOC, logistics, recovery and eligibility assistance. Available for consultation by phone outside of regular working hours as needed.
  • May function independently as a Tissue Recovery Coordinator or Team Lead as needed.
  • Provides appropriate documentation during the donation process when acting as Team Lead.
  • May also act as a key point of contact for their regional office and be involved in supply management, quality verifications, and other business needs.
  • Complies with all AATB, FDA, and partner standards, policies and procedures.
  • Works with the Technical Training Department and Technical Trainer P to serve as a content expert in training programs.
  • May assist as directed by Director, Tissue Donation Services in developing, coordinating, and performing training for TDS staff. This includes assisting with onboarding, didactic and clinical training, revising training materials, and coordinating training activities for new TRC’s and continuing education activities.
  • Assists in implementation of continuing education programs and competencies for TDS team members.
  • Participates in timely resolution of non-conformance investigations and development of appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  • Participates in compliance, quality assurance, and performance improvement programs and initiatives.
  • Participates in, and may lead, team meetings, employee committees, and events.
  • Complies with applicable laws, regulations, and LifeCenter policies and procedures.
  • This position directly supervises assigned staff and oversees the operations of their team(s) to ensure departmental functions and operations are achieved successfully. This position is a member of the leadership team of LifeCenter Northwest and has influence interdepartmentally as well as cross functionally.
