Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher degree from a program with a major in biology, chemistry, or the physical sciences registered by the NYSED (or equivalent to NYSED registered program); AND an advanced certificate from a college or university credit-bearing program, as evidenced on an official transcript/marksheets, in clinical laboratory technology registered as licensure qualifying at the time of graduation (or equivalent to NYSED registered program) preferred
  • Histopathology experience (including 5 years at the supervisory level), specifically: histological and immunohistochemical processes, special stains, and specimen dissection.
  • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or Histology Technician or Histology Technologist or Cytotechnologist
  • Strategic Leadership and Planning: Proven ability to develop and implement strategies while building consensus and influencing diverse teams to align with organizational goals.
  • Financial Stewardship and Process Improvement: Skilled in streamlining processes and optimizing clinical operations to enhance efficiency while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving: Proficient in using data and analytics to identify solutions, drive performance improvements, and address challenges.
  • Adaptability and Change Management: Effective at navigating ambiguity, driving innovation, and implementing organizational change initiatives.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and align stakeholders at all levels.
  • Project Management: Competence in managing multiple projects, ensuring timely and successful completion.

Nice To Haves

  • ASCP preferred
  • Experience in a CAP-accredited surgical pathology laboratory
  • IHC experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations and supervise technical staff in the Histology, IHC and Cytology laboratories and the morgue, ensuring quality care, regulatory compliance, and adherence to institutional policies and standards.
  • Hire, discipline, train, evaluate performance, and make recommendations for personnel actions
  • Maintain and improve professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of trends in patient service and protocols, and to assist in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develop the operating and capital budgets.
  • Responsible for instituting and maintaining cost control measures, monitoring budget variances, and preparing monthly variance reports.
  • Assist in the recommendation/negotiations with vendors regarding the purchase/maintenance of all equipment.
  • Evaluate and recommend the purchase of laboratory supplies, new products, and instrumentation.
  • Review/prepare documentation, reports, and records as required for the department to ensure that information is accurate and meets quality standards.
