About The Position

This position may be located at a Walgreens corporate location (Deerfield, IL or Chicago, IL) or at a Walgreens Distribution Center which includes the following locations: Pendergrass, GA, Anderson, SC, Jupiter, FL, Moreno Valley, CA, Houston, TX, Waxahachie, TX, Woodland, CA, Perrysburg, OH, Windsor, WI, MT. Vernon, IL, and Harford, CT. Responsible for developing, implementing and sustaining programs, policies, and practices related to Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) regulatory compliance and risk management for the supply chain. This role in partnership with the business unit and Corporate stakeholders will develop consistent, effective EHS programs and practices, provide training tools and processes for measuring effective outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience in environmental health and safety management or high school diploma/ GED and at least 5 years of experience in environmental health and safety management.
  • Experience working with policies, standards, programs, tools, and/or training materials as it relates to Environmental Health & Safety.
  • Experience participating/supporting in incident investigations, completion of root cause analysis, and developing and implementing corrective action plans.
  • Experience reviewing internal compliance programs to ensure regulations are accurately reflected (e.g. OSHA, Environmental Protection, Health & Safety, Transportation, Controlled Substances, and/or Food Safety).
  • Experience evaluating information to determine compliance.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships internally and externally.
  • Experience working with MS Office Suite.
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations to various audience levels.
  • At least 1 year of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 50% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.
  • At least 6 years of experience in environmental health and safety management.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and assessing risk management-based compliance programs.
  • Experience with distribution center and logistics operations, fleet operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience working across a matrix organization.
  • Experience in the retail and/or healthcare industry.
  • Experience in utilization of environmental, health, and safety management information systems (EMIS).
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE), Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Experience working in an industry that is heavily regulated.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, participates and contributes to reviewing, developing, writing, amending, implementing and auditing risk management-based regulatory compliance policies, procedures, manuals, training, and practices with focus on engineering aspects as it relates to overall EHS compliance.
  • Identifies, documents, and resolves potential regulatory compliance issues throughout the Supply Chain function.
  • Provides practical, value-added recommendations to address control gaps in the EHS compliance programs.
  • Remains current with occupational safety and health compliance regulations through review of publications and participation in industry associations.
  • Receives, tracks, and investigates reports of potential compliance violations and communicates this information to the Corporate EHS Specialist who handles regulatory correspondences.
  • Ensures proper mitigation and follow-up to ensure the exceptions are addressed as well as any corrective and/or preventative actions are completed.
  • Participates in, facilitates, and/or reviews incident investigations and completion of root cause analyses (RCAs) leading to corrective and/or preventative action plans (CAPAs).
  • Ensures CAPAs are based on a hierarchy of control (HOC) prioritizing risk elimination and engineering controls over other controls.
  • Ensures proper completion/closure of CAPAs to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Participates in safety meetings and other safety and health compliance-related meetings.
  • Works with cross-functional partners to create solutions in process and equipment design sessions to make them more worker-friendly and to improve productivity, and reduce fatigue and injury.
  • Supports the supply-chain compliance mission by proactively identifying, mitigating, and monitoring regulatory compliance risks for impacted company business units.
  • Builds effective relationships with all areas and levels of the organization.
  • Develops and implements EHS training content to ensure it meets regulatory requirements (I.e., ergonomics, etc.).
