The Manager of Substation Operations and Maintenance oversees Supervisors in the SSO maintenance department, providing leadership and managerial direction for the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of equipment within Substation Operations. This role is crucial for ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget while maintaining compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

  • Adhere to company policies ensuring all work is conducted safely without injury or illness.
  • Coordinate, plan, schedule, and execute capital projects to meet completion dates and costs.
  • Monitor and complete compliance-related work involving substation facilities and equipment.
  • Incorporate Human Performance Improvement (HPI) tools into daily work activities to prevent injuries.
  • Coach, support, and mentor direct reports, providing subject matter expertise and development opportunities.
  • Administer and communicate procedures and specifications to ensure proper construction and operation of substation equipment.
  • Review scoping documents and construction specifications for clarity and feasibility.
  • Hold appropriate Delegation of Authority for respective Area Manager.
  • Establish productivity standards and monitor performance against these standards.
  • Ensure timely handling of workloads and minimize backlogs.
  • Coordinate supervisory activities for timely delivery of materials and equipment.
  • Initiate procurement of special equipment and vendor support as needed.
  • Manage annual budget submissions for assigned area.
  • Ensure compliance and training requirements are met for all reports.
  • Support investigations of operating errors and safety infractions.
  • Partner with EH&S for environmental compliance and audits.
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive work environment while providing excellent customer service.
  • Enforce compliance with physical security at substation facilities.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Planning, Procurement, and Operations for project execution.
  • Share resources with other managers to accomplish emergent work and budget goals.
  • Identify best practices and lessons learned from O&M projects.
  • Make presentations on Capital Construction and O&M projects at the executive level.
  • Communicate project delays and significant events in a timely manner.
  • Conduct field visits and inspections of O&M projects.
  • Train new supervisors on core responsibilities.
  • Enforce administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and corporate policies.
  • High School Diploma/GED with 2 years in Field Ops planner title and 8 years work experience, or
  • Associate's Degree with 2 years in Field Ops planner title and 7 years work experience, or
  • Bachelor's Degree with 2 years in Field Ops planner title and 6 years work experience.
  • 2 years in Field Ops planner title required.
  • 2 years of experience directly supervising employees required.
  • 7-9 years of extensive knowledge and experience with high-voltage electrical equipment required.
  • Strong decision-making and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-departmental platform required.
  • Experience delivering Job Briefing and performing JSSEs required.
  • Extensive knowledge of SSO's GEI's and Substation Operating Procedures required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
