About The Position

About the Role: Job Summary The Manager of Sterile Processing has 24 hour responsibility for managing, organizing, and supervising the sterile processing areas, case cart delivery, instrument delivery, case cart delivery, core sterilization processes, preference card maintenance, the core techs, and all their related functions and systems in an effective and efficient manner. Must posses working knowledge of CMS, DNV, AORN, AMMI standards and all regulatory requirements of sterile processing. The Manager of Sterile Processing assists in the advancement of the professional practice environment by communicating the NGHS nursing strategic direction and focusing on activities that support the nursing strategic direction. Provides nursing involvement support for VOICE and the NDNQI quality teams including coaching team members in their professional participation. Assists with overall clinical governance and other projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Professional Certification in either a clinical or leadership specialty
  • Associate's Degree
  • Associate's Degree with five (5) years supervisory/management in SPD in an acute care setting
  • Professional organization membership within one (1) month of hire into the role

Responsibilities

  • Effective fiscal management of departmental operations
  • Directs activities related to all aspects of the instrument delivery and on-site sterilization processes
  • Ensures safe and cost-effective process for packaging and protecting instrumentation for sterilization, transportation, storage, and aseptic presentations
  • Ongoing sterilization efficacy testing
  • Collaborates with procedural areas to ensure consistent case cart practices, sterilization, and protocols meet recommended AMMI & AORN standards
  • Participates in formal and informal educational programming
  • Provides ongoing on-site education based on individual and departmental needs
  • Maintains professionalism under stress and ensures effective interdepartmental communication
  • Proactively anticipates and prevents potential problems within the department
  • Delegates responsibilities and duties to personnel
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement activities
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Invests in personal growth and demonstrates necessary knowledge and skills
  • Responsible for human resource management
  • Coordinates staffing needs and reviews coverage requirements
  • Hiring and evaluation of potential employees
  • Preparing and implementing approved budget initiatives
