About the opportunity Global Focus Categories (GFC) is a multi-billion dollar global portfolio comprising Fashion, Electronics and Home Improvement, Vehicles, Parts & Accessories, and more. These categories are key investment areas for eBay, and each have their unique market contexts and vertical-specific drivers to unlock growth. We are looking to hire a Manager or Senior Manager of Strategy and Business Operations, located in San Jose, CA, or San Francisco, CA who will support the Focus Categories leadership team and play an instrumental role in accelerating growth across our portfolio of assets. The role will support strategy development, while delivering on operational excellence in planning, analytics, reporting, and collaboration across a broad cross-functional team. The expectation is that the individual will develop an understanding of the different focus categories and assist with explaining and influencing the business and key strategic initiatives, while also keeping in mind the broader portfolio and driving consistency in approach and process across the board. Key partners include product, marketing, analytics, finance, and trust/risk, among many others, and may span across the US, Europe, and Asia. The role demands a dual mentality: both that of a strategic leader—who has a deep understanding of the dynamics of two-sided marketplaces, can break down tough problems into clear frameworks, operate in ambiguity, and possesses strong data intuition and executive-ready communications—as well as someone who can move quickly and decisively as an embedded operator not afraid to get their hands dirty.

  • Executive level verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to tell a compelling story backed by data
  • High degree of ownership and commitment to results
  • Self-motivated to identify opportunities and challenges in the business
  • Data-driven approach to planning and decision making. Comfortable and hands-on with data, analytics, and modeling
  • Organized problem solver who balances attention to detail with efficiency
  • Ambition to grow professionally and willingness to work hard, learn/adapt, and provide feedback both upward and to peer teams
  • 4-5+ years of related experience, including 2+ years at a top-tier management consulting firm, investment bank, or in a strategy or planning role at a major corporation
  • Industry experience in consumer goods, retail, e-commerce, or consumer tech
  • BA/BS required, MBA or similar graduate degree preferred

  • Build and own executive-ready presentations on strategy and operational updates
  • Manage key operational processes and business cadences across the portfolio
  • Create operational consistency and alignment across the portfolio
  • Track and synthesize business performance metrics, highlighting risks, progress, and opportunities
  • Partner across categories to manage interdependencies in the ecosystem and drive escalation and prioritization as needed
