As a 322-bed, acute-care, full-service hospital, we provide high-quality, convenient care to residents of Hurst, Euless, Bedford, and the surrounding communities. We offer a broad range of specialties, including women’s health, perioperative services, heart and vascular care, acute and medical-surgical care, intermediate/step-down care, oncology, behavioral health, and emergency medicine. Additional services include nuclear medicine, interventional radiology, respiratory therapy, and neuroscience care, including neurosurgery and stroke care. In support of medical education, our Internal Medicine Residency Program—launched in 2022—has grown from 20 to 60 residents and will celebrate its first graduating class in 2025. Texas Health HEB is ANCC Magnet® designated, Joint Commission-certified in Chest Pain (PHAC), a Primary Stroke Center, and a Level III Trauma Center. We also provide Level III NICU and Level III Maternal Care services, making us a trusted destination in North Texas for women’s health, cardiac care, surgical services, emergency medicine, and more.

Requirements

  • Masters of Divinity or related degree from an accredited theological school Required
  • 6 Years Experience in pastoral care or congregational setting Required
  • 4 units of ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education Required
  • Board Certified Chaplain APC or NACC or similar credentialing agency. Ordination and endorsement by religious judicatory Required Upon Hire
  • Demonstrate ability to integrate theological, ethical, and psychological resources into compassionate pastoral care. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Competency in basic computer use and electronic communication tools, e.g., email, calendar.
  • Ability to work with and relate to people of all faith traditions and cultural backgrounds. Ability to offer religious and spiritual rituals as requested by patients and staff. Ongoing proficiency in providing creative and appropriate opportunities for the expression of faith in the hospital setting. Ability to assess when referral to outside clergy for administration of religious rites is in order.
  • Excellent ability to work with people during crisis and bereavement, offering compassionate care and having familiarity with local resources to meet ongoing needs. Ability to debrief with clinical staff after critical incidents, with an understanding of cumulative stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA rules and regulations with an eye to compliance. Utilize error prevention tools to regularly address safety and standards of care.
  • Ability to support and contribute to department team functioning, including but not exclusive to timely sharing of events or concerns with Director and engendering trust and collaboration with team members.
  • Flexibility to adjust work location and hours as needed due to circumstances related to patient volumes or need is required. Locations and hours of availability that may be pursued outside of the primary entity and hours will be agreed to on upon hire, or prior to working at other entities.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care: Provide professional pastoral care to patients and their loved ones. Document spiritual assessments and interventions in electronic medical record.
  • Competently manage administrative functions and quality assurance for department (scheduling, timekeeping audits, chaplain EMR documentation audits, reports, goals, measurements, performance reviews, etc.) Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Interdisciplinary Team Integration and Care: Support entity administration and nursing leadership through Pastoral Care integration. Oversee department participation in entity committees and hospital process improvements. Participate in the ritual life of institution. Provide staff support, including entity leadership.
  • Serve as faith representative for hospital and liaison to area faith communities.
  • Develop/maintain annual goals and measurable outcomes in collaboration with the Director. Maintain requirements for board certification, which may include denominational requirements and continuing education.
