We are looking for an Engineering Manager who is passionate about leading a team pushing the capabilities of our public-facing websites. As a Engineering Manager at DigitalOcean, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing and AI. You will lead our Brand and Web Experience team and work closely with the Product Manager and with technical and business leaders across DigitalOcean to provide critical leadership to ensure a world class brand presence through the engineering and presentation of our public facing properties. By playing a key role in engineering processes and best practices, you will provide guidance and mentorship to a team of dedicated and enthusiastic engineers. The ideal candidate should have deep roots in leading full stack engineering teams delivering world-class web experiences, while building strong partnerships with stakeholders and senior leadership.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of software development experience, with at least 2+ years in a leadership role as an Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, or equivalent role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Javascript, Typescript, or Go.
  • Experience with React.js, Next.js and Node.js.
  • Experience with foundational backend and infrastructure technologies, like PostgresSQL, Nginx, CI/CD and Kubernetes.
  • Solid understanding of full-stack architecture, performance optimization, and scalability principles within an Enterprise-class software system.
  • Able to make effective trade-offs in regards to both engineering and product requirements, while balancing short term and long term needs.
  • Experience developing cross-disciplinary collaboration between engineering, operations, support, and product groups.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience managing, coaching, and mentoring software engineers.
  • Experience with staffing, interviewing, building, and retaining teams.
  • Experience conveying complex ideas in written, verbal and presentational formats to get buy-ins from diverse stakeholders.
  • Prior experience leveraging AI tooling to augment productivity and evangelizing their use for engineering teams.
  • Ideal candidates have experience in networking and internet engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of frontend and full-stack engineers, fostering growth and technical excellence.
  • Oversee the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with business goals and engineering standards.
  • Be hands-on and provide input to software architecture, design, and optimization of scalable full-stack software solutions.
  • Collaborate across the organization and consistently interface with product, design, UX, marketing and other technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Develop and refine processes and tools to improve team performance, quality-of-life, as well as product performance and quality.
  • Leverage and evangelize the use of AI tooling to improve engineering velocity and quality, where appropriate.
