This people-leader position serves as Software Engineering Product Manager (SEPM) for the Nationwide Financial (NF) High Availability Databases (HA DB) and eB2B Data Feeds technology suite within the Integrated Digital Services (IDS) Business Solution Area. The IDS BSA provides shared technology services for Nationwide Financial lines of business, including Annuities, Life Insurance, and Retirements Solutions. The High Availability Databases are the backend to a variety of Web sites and applications that serve our Members and Partners. The eB2B Data Feeds include secure file transfers to and from many entities including Financial Firm partners, third party applications and platforms, industry entities such as DTCC, and across NF Technology areas, as well as the supporting Web applications to manage file creation and transmission. This leader role is accountable for all aspects of technology solution delivery including plan, build, and run functions for the application suites, including leadership for about 15 direct reports, several agile delivery lines, and offshore support from MSA (for Run support) and MCA (Managed Capacity for Build / maintenance) teams. The SEPM accountabilities include partnering on technology and business roadmaps and capability/feature delivery; leading a team of technology associates and contractors; managing supplier relationships and contracts; and maintaining secure, resilient, user-friendly applications for use by our business partners. Many NF business initiatives require supporting enhancements, from new products and partnerships to transformational programs like Annuity Modernization and Life Simplify. From a technical perspective, the HA DB scope includes Oracle databases, Informatica ETL, Snowflake, and is expanding to python and other technologies. The eB2B Data Feeds include Java applications and utilities; EFTS secure file transfer platform (on IBM Sterling); AWS hosting; and hundreds to thousands of daily file transfers into and out of Nationwide. Strategically, the coming years should bring exciting opportunities to evolve from static data sets and files to more dynamic data products including Kafka events, Snowflake data sharing and pipelines, APIs, and other ways to meet the increasing needs of our financial professionals and firm partners. You'll lead teams of technology professionals to enable business outcomes and provide reliable customer-centric solutions and experiences.

Requirements

• Strong technical acumen including data integration and management, custom application development, and strong operations, with a focus on security, resiliency, and automation
• Modern technology architectures including cloud, automation, containerization, APIs, etc.
• Strong people leadership experience with building and leading high performing teams
• Ability to craft technology roadmaps in the context of business growth and strategy, and to modernize while maintaining the existing critical operations
• Effective collaboration and communication skills
• Passionate about driving continuous improvement and innovation to enable business outcomes
• Undergraduate studies in management information systems, engineering, math, computer science or comparable experience and education preferred.
• Six years of experience in application suite management with four years or more leading numerous teams across multiple technologies.
• Proven experience in empowering and building an engaged team.
• Detailed understanding and knowledge of the systems development life cycle and modern methodologies, practices, tools, and techniques.
• Solid understanding of concepts and techniques in project delivery, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
• Ability to develop and implement roadmap strategies.
• Proven decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Coaching and career development of team.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships.

Nice To Haves

• Insurance/financial services industry knowledge is a plus.
• Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
• Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for applying secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
• Partners with leaders to ensure a viable total cost of ownership and ongoing health and wellness of applications.
• Assists in the development and implementation of application suite roadmaps through the evaluation of business needs, competitive landscape, technology currency and information security considerations.
• Manages risk mitigation controls and provides support for internal and external audits.
• Supports the engineering build of the application suite and non technical efforts for the products.
• Represents voice of the customer, acts in a forward-facing role to business partners as an active member of a portfolio management team in the advocation of business case development, planning, financial management and evaluation of portfolio.
• Hire and develop talent, provide consistent coaching and feedback.
• Responsible for delivery availability and resiliency following established operating mechanisms and best practices.
• May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
