About The Position

As the Engineering Manager for Interop Platform, you’ll be center stage to Zocdoc’s growth and product development. This isn’t just running a team; it’s owning the product platform strategy that defines Zocdoc’s future. The platform you lead will be the foundation for our most strategic bets: scaling Zo, our phone AI agent, automating product onboarding, making integrations observable and self-serve, and enabling enterprises to connect with confidence. Your work will influence not just how Zocdoc builds products today, but how we become the healthcare platform of tomorrow.

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend or platform engineering experience working on APIs, data platforms, scalable distributed systems, or similar technologies.
• 3+ years leading teams that delivered mission-critical systems in a modern cloud microservices environment.
• Have a proven track record of building and scaling product platforms, designing APIs, data pipelines, and distributed systems that became core to business growth.
• Have experience growing data platforms: ingestion, normalization, ETL pipelines, and serving models that scale with complexity while meeting security and compliance standards (HIPAA/PHI a plus).
• Are fluent in API ecosystems and developer experience, and know how to build customer-facing platforms developers adopt with confidence.
• Are fluent in observability and reliability practices, defining SLOs, building dashboards, running incident response, and ensuring service health is visible and actionable.
• Can balance long-term platform vision with short-term business tradeoffs, making pragmatic decisions on the fly without losing sight of strategy.
• Excel at partnering with cross-functional stakeholders and communicating clearly at all levels, aligning diverse asks into a cohesive platform strategy that drives real customer outcomes.
• Can grow and scale a high-performing team, hiring exceptional engineers, mentoring them into Staff and future leaders, and sustaining engagement and retention.
• Are passionate about being an AI advocate, embedding AI into platform workflows, championing automation, and using AI to reduce toil and expand what’s possible.

Responsibilities

• Leading and scaling the Interop Platform team- hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers into high performers and future leaders.
• Raising the technical bar- enforcing high standards for system design, code quality, observability, and reliability across all services.
• Owning platform delivery- ensuring APIs, data pipelines, and systems are secure, scalable, and reliable in a modern microservices cloud environment.
• Driving predictable execution- running clear planning, standups, and retros to ensure roadmap commitments are delivered with consistency and quality.
• Balancing priorities- making smart trade-offs between long-term platform investments and high-visibility business needs, keeping strategic goals in focus while unblocking immediate demands.
• Partnering across Zocdoc- working closely with Product, PMM, BD, and peer engineering teams to align on priorities, balance competing asks, and ensure every capability delivered drives real customer outcomes.
• Making progress visible- translating technical work into dashboards, narratives, and outcomes that executives, providers, and enterprise partners can understand and value.
• Anticipating future needs- pacing the platform ahead of demand by identifying reusable systems, data capabilities, and automation that unlock the next generation of products.
• Championing resilience- ensuring the platform meets enterprise-grade reliability, scalability, and HIPAA/PHI compliance requirements.
• Fostering innovation and continuous improvement- encouraging curiosity, experimentation, and investment in new technologies and patterns that expand Interop’s leverage.

• Remote Base Salary Range: $176,000—$264,000 USD
