About The Position

The Manager of Software Development at PayPal will lead the Transaction Engineering team, responsible for handling payment transactions and ensuring a high-quality payment experience. This role involves managing a team of engineers, overseeing product and technical roadmaps, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. The position requires a hands-on approach to leadership, focusing on team development, timely delivery of engineering initiatives, and stakeholder engagement to meet high standards of security and performance.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of people management experience, preferably with geographically distributed teams.
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, architecture, and/or product development.
  • Expertise in distributed systems and service architectures, preferably with JVM-based systems.
  • Competence in design and implementation for reliability, availability, scalability, and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and rollout of the product and technical roadmap for the team, ensuring concrete outcomes.
  • Build, nurture, and grow the engineering team, delivering relevant features and capabilities while supporting their career growth.
  • Provide regular, constructive feedback and coaching to team members, overseeing performance management and talent development processes.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of engineering initiatives to create desired value.
  • Collaborate closely with product owners, solution architects, user experience designers, and engineering counterparts to deliver solutions for customers.
  • Partner with various stakeholders to develop products that meet high standards of security, scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Act as a liaison between product and technology teams, aligning business needs with technological solutions.
  • Provide hands-on leadership, assisting the team with design and architectural decisions, conducting design and code reviews, and establishing strong quality and delivery pipelines.
  • Work with core platform and infrastructure teams to meet the infrastructure needs for building Unified Merchant Platform solutions.
  • Foster a culture of diversity, inclusion, collaboration, and customer-centricity within the team.
  • Gain a deep understanding of the payments business and how technology decisions impact it.
