The BNSF Railway Finance Department provides innovative strategic solutions and world-class financial services to support BNSF's overall performance. These departments work collaboratively to secure BNSF's economic stability and support its growth and innovation within the railway industry. This is a full-time position located in Fort Worth, TX. For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely. Salary range: 3+ years of experience: $87,700 - $110,000 4+ years of experience: $101,900 - $130,000 These ranges reflect what BNSF Railway reasonably expects to pay for this position, based on the role’s level, scope, and responsibilities. Final compensation and position level will be determined by factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Position Overview: The Manager/Senior Manager, Strategic Sourcing – Vehicle Fleet provides enterprise-level leadership for the strategy, procurement, and lifecycle management of BNSF’s vehicle fleet. In alignment with the Strategic Sourcing & Supply mission, this role is accountable for delivering significant, sustainable Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) improvements, capital optimization, and operational excellence across a fleet of 7,600+ vehicles. This position serves as the senior sourcing authority for vehicle procurement and fleet services, overseeing supplier strategy, fleet management partnerships, and cross-functional execution. The Senior Manager works closely with executive leadership, corporate functions, and field operations to ensure the fleet is safe, reliable, efficient, and aligned with long-term business and operational priorities. Daily work is conducted in an indoor office environment. Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs. Requirements

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years experience in fleet sourcing and procurement, strategic sourcing, or the railroad industry
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale sourcing initiatives with measurable financial impact
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree (MBA or related field)
  • Deep working knowledge of vehicle specifications, fleet operations, and lifecycle cost management
  • Strong financial acumen including capital planning and budget ownership
  • Executive-level communication and change leadership capabilities

Responsibilities

  • Build and execute the enterprise vehicle fleet sourcing and procurement strategy aligned with long-term business objectives
  • Own and govern the Vehicle Fleet Capital Plan, including multi-year forecasting and executive reporting
  • Establish and continuously improve vehicle replacement and lifecycle strategies leveraging cost and utilization analytics
  • Provide strategic direction and approval for vehicle specifications balancing safety, operations, standardization, and cost
  • Lead complex, high-value RFPs, negotiations, and supplier selections
  • Oversee supplier performance, contract compliance, and service-level management
  • Manage and optimize relationships with fleet management partners and key suppliers
  • Partner with senior leaders across operations, finance, and engineering to align fleet strategy with business needs
  • Champion transformational initiatives that deliver material cost savings and efficiencies
