About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Public Safety has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Manager, Security. Core Job Summary: The Manager, Security develops University-wide plans, tests, and training programs to mitigate and respond to all types of campus emergencies and disasters. The incumbent works in conjunction with hospitals, schools, businesses, and local emergency services in order to effectively carry out department functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required
  • Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements
  • Operational Management: Optimizes day-to-day operations and processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Organizational Development: Ability to implement strategies to improve organizational effectiveness, engagement, and manage change.
  • Financial Oversight: Knowledge of financial operations and management.
  • Team Leadership: Ability to create and maintain a cohesive and productive team environment, build positive working relationships and work collaboratively with others.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and persuasively.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the development of National Incident Management System (NIMS) compliant incident command structures to integrate University Emergency Response Plans with outside response agencies and oversees the training and implementation of the NIMS strategies throughout the school.
  • Conducts risk and vulnerability assessments by types of emergencies.
  • Prepares and implements mitigation strategies in coordination with other departments in order to minimize impact and disruption.
  • Trains security personnel in emergency response and disaster recovery activities.
  • Collaborates with department managers to train, test, and improve department unit plans.
  • Maintains satellite phones and other emergency response radios and equipment to ensure continuous readiness for immediate activation.
  • Coordinates emergency response and special event planning activities with federal, state, and city authorities.
  • Takes on special projects such as the implementation and training of armed security personnel.
