About The Position

This role is responsible for executing on the strategy for Seattle station safety and compliance activities at Alaska Airlines (AS). As a people leader, the Manager Seattle Station Safety & Compliance leads and establishes priorities for the team to administer and optimize processes pertaining to station safety and compliance.

Requirements

  • 5 years of safety and compliance experience, preferably at an airport or an airline.
  • 2 years of leadership experience.
  • A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree, or an additional two years of experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand the root causes of issues and to resolve in a thorough manner.
  • A thorough understanding of airline safety and operating standards, as well as customer service, ground handling, cargo, and security operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly scope situations, develop an accurate understanding of risks, and develop plans responsive to those risks.
  • Detailed oriented and highly organized, with the ability to execute on multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment where flexibility is key.
  • Build effective and sustainable relationships with vendors.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Professional work ethic and demonstrated ability to work with all work groups while addressing people courageously, directly, and candidly.
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, creative and willing to try new approaches.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive knowledge of Alaska Airlines station audit (QA) programs.
  • Familiarity with TSA, FAA, and IATA regulations and requirements related to ground handling.
  • Data analytics experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and establish priorities for the team to develop and administer Customer Service Airports (CSA) related contractual agreements, as well as the negation process to support company performance goals and cost managements.
  • Contribute to the long-term strategy and planning for station safety and compliance by compiling and analyzing system-wide station performance data, including presentation and distribution of vendor performance and measurements.
  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management.
  • Shape culture of team through action, presence and reinforcement of behaviors.
  • Execute on strategy at the Airports Safety Accountability Board (ASAB) monthly meetings as the safety and compliance representative to provide contractual input as many become necessary, or to ensure vendor corporate involvement with any action item follow up that may be required by Alaska’s ground handling vendors.
  • Perform preliminary reviews of root cause and corrective action plans for station audit findings; assesses accuracy of root cause and robustness of corrective actions.
  • Responsible for data collection, and the risk identification and assessment procedures during process-based audits.
  • Provide input in the strategy for the development of corrective action plans in response to IEP, FAA, TSA findings to ensure that corrective action plans are sufficiently robust, well thought out, and feasible.
  • Lead or partner on investigations of significant Ground Irregularity Reports (GIRs) and other incident reports.
  • Responsible for tracking successful completion of all required audits that station management is responsible for performing on a routine basis.
