Job SummaryThis role requires a strong level of situational agility to support across the West business in support of various functions and stakeholders in the organization. The role will be involved in managing scientific projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and drive scientific strategies with the goal of supporting the safety, efficacy, and appropriate use of the company's products and their intended use. The job holder will design and implement experiments, interpreting scientific data, and communicating findings to both scientific and non-scientific audiences. Engaging externally as a West scientific representative and or a subject matter expert with customers, regulatory authorities, and or a key opinion leaders, is essential to this role.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in the field of Science, Technology, or Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a scientific or regulatory affairs role within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device industry.
  • Possess excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Has the ability to translate complex science into simple actionable plans that provide scientific guidance to internal teams that contribute to business success
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Be aware of all relevant SOPs, as per Company policy, as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description
  • Ability to comply with the company’s safety and quality policies at all times
  • Able to routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
  • Adaptable to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with written and oral skills, make quick decisions, interpret data, read & write, speak in front of groups, express and exchange ideas, understand direction and adhere to procedures
  • Organizational skills will enable planning, prioritization and achievement of goals especially of importance for the successful execution of related activities
  • Position operates in a professional office environment. May stand or sit for extended periods of time
  • Read and interpret data, information and documents
  • Must maintain the ability to work well with others in a variety of situations
  • Must be able to multi-task, work under time constraints, problem solve, and prioritize
  • Ability to make independent and sound judgments
  • Observe and interpret situations, analyze and solve problems
  • Sedentary-Exerting up to 10lbs/4kgs of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and implementation of scientific strategies aligned with business objectives
  • Provide scientific guidance to internal teams and contribute to strategic planning
  • Translate science into business strategy
  • Interpret and communicate scientific data to internal and external audiences
  • Engage with external stakeholders including regulatory agencies and business partners
  • Build and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders and external scientific experts
  • Represent the company at standard setting organizations, scientific meetings, conferences, and industry events
  • Attend scientific conferences and meetings to stay up-to-date on the latest research and advancements
  • Leverage analytical thinking for problem-solving
  • Conduct independent research to support various projects, read various studies and scientific papers to gather accurate and relevant information
  • Stay current with industry standards and compliance requirements
  • Work collaboratively across departments
  • Provide training and education to internal teams about current scientific topics and research trends
  • Adhere to regulations, policies, work procedures, and safety rules
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs
