This position is accountable for providing mentorship and managerial leadership to employees who control the installation, maintenance, diagnosing, and repair of communications systems. The role emphasizes safety leadership, performance oversight, compliance with policies, and continuous improvement of team efficiency.

  • Direct safety leadership and champion improvement in workplace safety and ensures execution of all safety plan activities
  • Oversee the performance of the services delivered and initiate corrective actions where appropriate
  • Mentor team on improvement opportunities (Identifies and recommends innovative work methods, new processes, and standard methodologies)
  • Ensure compliance with and implements policies, processes, and procedures
  • Achieve appropriate goals set out for area of responsibility
  • Lead the approved budgetary guidelines
  • Provide recommendation on short and long-term capital and expense plans, assists in development of S&C estimates and provides project justification
  • Mentor team to continuously improve their efficiency and provide development opportunities
  • Provide timely and effective response to emergent conditions
  • Provide management of materials on territory and accurate inventory
  • High School diploma or its equivalent
  • Associates of Applied Science in Electronics and/or Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering is a plus
  • Minimum 5 years Maintenance and/or Construction experience in Telecommunications system
  • Railroad experience is a bonus
  • Detailed knowledge and comprehension of collective agreements
  • Detailed understanding of telecommunications principles, equipment, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent computer software skills (Word, Excel, PP, SAP)
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Shown ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to support on-call operations (24x7 availability)
  • Experience in a safety sensitive position
  • Certification as a conductor or locomotive engineer
