The Manager, Retail Pharmacy Services provides direct supervision and leadership for the outpatient services and pharmacies of the pharmacy service line. Coordinates the available pharmacists and technicians to assure reasonable equality of workload and maintains a professional environment in the retail pharmacy work areas. Actively promotes extraordinary customer service and the provision of exceptional pharmaceutical care. Solves problems and facilitates processes required to achieve department objectives within budgetary targets. Qualified individuals must have the ability with or without reasonable accommodation to perform the following duties: Develops practice standards and procedures for the retail pharmacies all locations. Ensures compliance with established departmental policies and procedures, State and Federal regulations and standard operating practices. Assures conformance by division personnel to Hospital and department standards, policies and procedures. Manages pharmaceutical and OTC purchasing, receiving, and inventory control in line with regulations and best practices. Manages and assesses systems and services to ensure appropriateness, integration and coordination with other areas of the system. Ensures staff compliance with all policies and procedures, demonstrated by a complete and current Policy and Procedure Manual, minutes, and other records. Ensures that services meet recognized quality control and operational standards. Responsible for the financial management of the department, including charges, cash receipts and third party arrangements. Assures that staff accurately and effectively educates patients on the appropriate use of medications. Does so in a manner which exceeds regulatory requirements. Provides patients with the information necessary to safely administer medications. Collaborates with Manager, Pharmacy IT and Automation to ensure maintenance and oversight of all outpatient pharmacy computer systems and technology. Acts as consultant and provides leadership to system administrator to ensure appropriate updates, training and optimal system performance. The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above: Performs staff pharmacist functions including accurately and efficiently compounding, labeling and dispensing medications utilizing appropriate techniques. Prior to dispensing medication, carefully reviews the prescription - retrospectively and prospectively to prevent adverse reactions, allergic reactions, drug interactions and improper dosing. Documents findings and interventions appropriately. Recruit, interview, hire, train, and schedule quality personnel required to achieve department objectives. Other duties as assigned.
