About The Position

Reference Lab Manager is responsible for working closely with Reference Laboratories and IT to ensure all tests are reported in a timely manner. Works with techs on issues that come up in regards to tests sent to the reference labs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Maintain laboratory procedures, equipment and processes to aide diagnosis and treat diseases. Follows proper guidelines for safe handling of blood, body fluids and hazardous chemicals. Maintains proper records of laboratory testing and results as described in the policy and procedures manual. Adheres to CLIA compliance requirements. Interacts with medical staff and assists physicians with questions regarding tests that are sent out to other Reference Labs. Maintains sufficient inventory of laboratory supplies for daily operations. Understanding of LIS; including ordering test, rejecting test, reviewing and approving results. Understands the need to work closely with IT to ensure all results cross over the interfaces properly Work computer problems that come up (interface issues, tests that are entered incorrectly and have to be adjusted in Copia and Aria. Interacts with Reference Laboratories Attends Monthly meetings with the Lab Management Team Attends Monthly CMC clinic meetings Monitor payroll for the Reference Lab techs at CMC Understands the billing process and knows when to write billing adjustments Periodically works reference lab pending and checks on tests that are past the normal turn around time Works with techs with questions regarding send out test, sample requirements and correct test name Works on projects with regards to the labs growth and advancements in technology Fills out Quest Trailers to give additional information needed for billing purposes Works with management after supervisor leaves on issues that come up that cannot wait until the next day

Requirements

  • Demonstrates ability to add new tests in Copia
  • Demonstrates ability to check Quarterly Chart Review Checklist
  • Demonstrates knowledge of procedures and practices
  • Demonstrates ability to update test information into the LIS that is received from all reference lab and distributes to Lab Techs the new information.
  • Demonstrates how to handle all reference lab issues that are beyond the normal scope of what techs are used to.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrates the ability to work Match Results in Copia.
  • Demonstrates how to process specimens that are sent out to the Reference Laboratories
  • Demonstrates how to process specimens for in-house testing.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with Reference Labs regarding specimens not received, sent improperly, lost specimen and other issues that arise.
  • Has knowledge of billing
  • Demonstrates the ability to add tests and cancel orders in Copia and Aria LIS.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work reference lab pending and check on test(s) that are past the normal turn around time.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work closely with IT to ensure speed of LIS is adequate.
  • Demonstrates how to interact with IT and reference labs to ensure orders/results cross over the interface properly.
  • Current State of Tennessee Medical Laboratory Technician License and/or have 3 years of extensive experience working in a laboratory setting.
