For more information, please visit us at www.havenwyckhospital.com Havenwyck Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Recreational Therapy Manager to join our team of compassionate and dedicated professionals. The Recreational Therapy Manager is responsible for management of the Recreational Therapy staff members, for providing direction, motivation, supervision and learning experiences. The Recreational Therapy Manager assists in the development of new programs and/or projects. The Recreational Therapy Manager is a liaison between each program and the respective units. The Recreational Therapy Manager coordinates the day-to-day operations of the RT staff on the respective units. The Recreational Therapy Manager acts as Clinical Coordinator for student programs. The Recreational Therapy Manager may also be required to maintain a caseload with the department, following the Recreational Therapist job description.

Requirements

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an approved program required.
  • Certification by National Certification Board (NCTRC) required.
  • Five years clinical experience; three years psychiatric experience preferred.
  • Supervision experience (i.e.: recreational therapy, CTRSS, interns) required.

Responsibilities

  • The Recreational Therapy Manager is responsible for directing the Recreational Therapy staff in regard to therapeutic treatment of psychiatric patients.
  • To develop motivational and learning experiences for Recreational Therapy staff.
  • To provide supervision of Recreational Therapy staff in their performance of daily responsibilities.
  • To assist therapist in the development of appropriate new and/or revised programs and activities.
  • To attend and/or conduct pertinent meetings of staff, patients, physicians, i.e., Treatment Planning, Milieu, Program Committee.
  • Provides professional encouragement, support, and in-services to therapy staff.
  • Provides schedules for therapists and facilities appropriate to Recreational Therapy.
  • Responsible for knowledge of status of equipment, supplies, and necessity of ordering same.
  • Interviews and hires new staff. Assures orientation and competency assessments are up to date for department. Assures staff attendance at mandatory training. Completes performance evaluations on therapists and provides counseling when needed.
  • Acts as liaison between Recreational Therapy Department and each program.
  • Reviews journal articles and distributes to appropriate departments in order to promote evidence – based practice.
  • Participates in activities to foster personal and professional development through attending lectures, in-services, seminars, and workshops related to Recreational Therapy practices, treatment of psychiatric patients, and personnel management.
  • Responsible for input into the development of Master Treatment Plans and ongoing treatment planning.
  • Recreational Therapy patient assessments, progress note documentation and group implementation.
  • Acts as Clinical Coordinator for student programs and as liaison between the hospital and colleges and universities requesting clinical experience for students.
  • Member of the Hospital Performance Improvement Committee, Infection Control Committee, Medical Records Committee, and Safety and Risk Management Committee.
  • Designs and implements Performance Improvement Plan for Recreational Therapy Department and reports findings and improvement measures to P.I. Committee.
  • Attends hospital mandatory training/in-services as required.
  • Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
