About The Position

This role is a key member of the corporate Tax team, responsible for property tax compliance and planning activities, managing property tax audits and appeals, and overseeing business license filings and renewals. In this role, you will report directly to the Sr Director, Tax and support two senior tax accountants, setting clear goals and fostering engagement across the Tax team. This role is Hybrid Seattle, Washington and will require you to be in office with us 4 days per week. A day in the life… Manage external providers and consultants, ensuring clear expectations, progress tracking, and timely delivery of property tax and licensing obligations Gather and review data for return preparation; ensure accuracy with the fixed asset accounting team Maintain property tax and licensing calendar to ensure timely filings, payments and renewals Forecast property tax and business license expense and coordinate with FP&A Review reconciliations for property tax and business license accounts to support monthly close Manage property tax appeals and audits, and negotiate with state and local taxing authorities to secure fair and equitable valuations through informal and formal hearings Create value by reviewing assets, researching positions, obtaining exemptions and improving processes Review deeds, leases, assignments, and other agreements to determine tax obligations Manage business license portfolio and lead licensing for new store openings, ensuring compliance and timely securing necessary licenses Conduct tax research and monitor legislative changes Facilitate annual site inspections with county appraisers Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, Corporate Real Estate, Store Design and Legal teams Implement automation to streamline data gathering and reporting Develop and support a team of tax professionals with clear objectives and feedback

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and industry
  • BA/BS in Accounting or comparable degree, required
  • Property tax appeal and audit experience required; retail industry experience preferred
  • Proficiency with tax research tools and accounting systems such as Oracle, Tableau, Alteryx, PTMS and CCH
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Sound technical research skills; ability to evaluate and communicate the implications of technical issues in verbal and written form
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Analytical and detail oriented; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing teams
  • Ability to think strategically while engaging in day-to-day details and solving complex tax issues
  • Flexible, curious, and eager to learn; ability to adapt to new situations
