Please note that this position is remote, but candidates must be within commuting distance to the Chicago suburbs for occasional on-site meetings. We are looking to add a Project Engineering Manager - Capital & Continuous Improvement to the team! This position is responsible for leading the development, facilitation, and implementation of the Capital Equipment and Operational Excellence / Continuous Improvement processes for all manufacturing locations company-wide. This position will work closely with operations leadership, plant personnel, and continuous improvement teams at both the business unit and corporate level. Responsibilities will also include designing and delivering capital equipment improvements, training programs, leading and facilitating process improvement teams, analyzing processes, metrics and results, and implementing strategies as necessary. This position may require travel between 30% to 50% both domestically and internationally.

  • Manage major multi-million dollar capital projects companywide including equipment research, layout design, identification and comparison of equipment options and configurations.
  • Manage the estimating, capability analysis and implementation of equipment additions and improvements.
  • Develop, utilize and update complex spreadsheets and project management tools to track assets, capabilities, condition, age and replacement plans across the worldwide manufacturing platform.
  • Create detailed models and testing protocols to compare new equipment technologies as they are introduced to facilitate the asset selection process.
  • Interface and work closely with RRD Corporate multifunctional teams including procurement, EHS, IT, Legal, Finance, etc.
  • Manage equipment supplier relationships, interactions between manufacturing plants and suppliers to assure Client expectations are met through equipment selection and performance.
  • Meet with Clients during the product design phase to assure manufacturability of product options.
  • Assist in the development of the operational excellence continuous improvement model.
  • Develop tools and common performance metrics for equipment and processes. Establish the means of reporting performance against goals and drive improvement in performance metrics.
  • Roll out existing CI training programs including but not limited to 5S, make a ready reduction, Kaizen, and value stream mapping
  • Research, design and develop new CI training programs and materials. Train manufacturing teams on continuous improvement techniques and concepts.
  • Develop baselines for future comparisons. Work with IT as needed to modify or expand appropriate data to be captured and measured.
  • Provide ongoing feedback regarding goals and plans. Oversee the completion, compilation, and analysis of results to ensure effective program implementation.
  • Conduct review meetings with CI teams and recommend procedures for improvement. Assist in establishing action plans and follow-up as needed.
  • Provide ongoing communication regarding corporate-wide OE/CI and capital initiatives. Evaluate and motivate teams.
  • Collaborate with others to ensure the applicability and effectiveness of the process and capital improvements across multiple functional areas.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned based on skillset and business needs.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting or working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Capital and general engineering project management experience.
  • Microsoft Excel, PPT, proficiency required. Minitab and Project Management software preferred
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Must have excellent change management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across multiple functional areas
  • Strong coaching and people development skills
  • Good grasp of manufacturing processes, operations, and plant key performance indicators
  • Self-motivated and driven to achieve results
  • Building, HVAC and power system experience preferred.
  • Manufacturing management experience preferred.
  • Digital Printing experience preferred.
  • Experienced in the use of CI tools and capable of training others in their use.
