About The Position
PayPal, Inc. seeks Manager, Production Engineering in San Jose, CA. The role involves building and leading an operation-focused 24x7 team within a new Site Reliability Engineering organization focused on merchant experience. The manager will respond to merchant issues, ensuring they are prioritized, communicated, and eliminated by using and expanding world-class automation and observability tools. The position requires expanding upon PayPal's robust toolset to create exceptional visibility into the experiences of Merchants, ensuring proactive identification and elimination of issues that can negatively impact business. The manager will hire, train, motivate, and manage a talented 24x7 team of engineers, giving them the processes and knowledge they need to make a consistent and tangible impact on PayPal's merchants. The role includes running agile ceremonies for the development work done by the team, analyzing team processes and data to identify opportunities for automation and improvement, prioritizing escalations, and ensuring timely updates. The manager will also research emerging technologies to improve the efficiency of software product development and testing tools and methodologies, periodically meet with leadership teams and stakeholders to update on project status, advise on risks, and propose mitigation plans. This position manages 10 Direct Reports in the roles of Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, and SiteOps Engineer. Partial telecommuting is permitted from within a commutable distance.
