About The Position

The Manager, Procurement (Direct & Indirect) provides overall leadership, direction, and strategic execution for purchasing and sourcing activities across both direct materials and indirect goods and services. This role ensures continuity of supply, cost optimization, supplier performance, and compliance with quality and regulatory requirements, while developing a high-performing procurement team aligned to organizational goals. The position integrates operational purchasing execution with strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management to support business objectives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required.
  • 7+ years of experience in purchasing and/or strategic sourcing within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing both direct materials and indirect goods and services.
  • Prior people management experience required.
  • Strong leadership and people development capabilities, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence at multiple organizational levels.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and modern procurement tools (eSourcing, eProcurement).
  • Knowledge of supply chain principles, lean manufacturing, and supplier quality management.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical device or regulated manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Professional certification (e.g., APICS, ISM) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, talent management, and performance management for purchasing and indirect sourcing teams, including hiring, coaching, development, and performance evaluations.
  • Establish clear individual and team goals aligned with organizational objectives; develop and communicate metrics to measure procurement performance and results.
  • Lead purchasing operations to ensure accurate planning, timely communication of supply requirements, and visibility of risks or deviations through ERP/MRP systems.
  • Analyze and manage supply market risks and opportunities, including commodity trends, cost drivers, and supplier capacity, to ensure continuity of supply and cost effectiveness.
  • Develop, execute, and continuously improve standard work, policies, and procedures across procurement activities.
  • Create and execute category strategies for indirect goods and services, leveraging market intelligence and industry trends to deliver savings, quality, and service improvements.
  • Optimize supplier base across direct and indirect spend, delivering annual savings while ensuring quality, service, and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as primary liaison with suppliers, managing negotiations, contracts, and supplier relationship management (SRM) activities.
  • Establish and manage supplier performance KPIs; partner with Quality and cross-functional teams to improve supplier performance and mitigate risk.
  • Oversee supplier quality system processes, ensuring timely completion, documentation, and communication.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, IT, HR, Facilities, Finance, and senior leadership to align procurement strategies with functional and site goals.
  • Support development and implementation of procurement tools to improve efficiency and value.
  • Monitor company-owned materials, equipment, and components at suppliers to ensure inventory accuracy and asset control.
  • Ensure compliance with the Code of Ethics, Quality System, and all applicable federal and international standards.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on savings, cost metrics, supplier performance, and progress against procurement initiatives.
